Not an actual news story, one sided, no comparison on miles traveled/incident, or even trying to get a control car company with similar size and deployment, and THEIR miles/incident

Heavy on emotion, low on substance

Still safer than human drivers prone to experiencing Momentary Loss of Reasoning*

7 more deaths and Tesla will be tied with Ford. Specifically the Ford Pinto deaths from bad gas tank engineering.

    Just food for thought..

SAFETY and FAIRNESS both totally subjective (one person’s definition of it is different than someone else’s) and therefore impossible to define for everyone.

I work in the oilfield and hear ######## like “you can never be too safe” all the time. Of course you can! Driving too slow can be as dangerous as driving too fast. Just ask the people in San Francisco living with all these automated cars.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2023/04/24/driverless-cars-san-francisco/

Gen X is the last generation deeply skeptical of computers because we remember living without their constant input and control yet everything was just fine. For every step forward in convenience we've lost two back of autonomy.

Four or five times now I’ve ordered an Uber, set off on our way and, towards the end of the trip, given them instructions where to go.

“OK, you’re going to want to start slowing down, we’re going to turn right at that giant billboard. Start slowing down. Slow down, we need to turn right! Slow down! (as we pass the turn) Stop! Stop!”

The retard driving was always young and looking intensely at their phone. The computer was giving them directions so it must be right. The guy paying their salary at the moment was irrelevant.

Untrue. (Most of) Every generation that lacks a new technology after they grew up is deeply skeptical of it, true. But (mostly) only those that grew up WITH the new technology can fully appreciate the depth of its flaws.

I hate those cars for the same reason I can’t stand bmw,Audi, Honda, and the other “high-end look at me I’m a major d*****bag” cars. They all drive like insane #######.

Self driving trucks won’t happen for awhile. It has to be a controlled environment. Meaning cars will have to be self driving also. Trucking isn’t a controlled environment and states can’t keep up with the infrastructure.

It isn’t the technology it’s human error that will keep this grounded. Werner just paid two nuclear verdicts totaling 250 MILLION dollars in lawsuits. Drivers were NOT citied or at fault. Lawyers found a way to get paid.

If a motorist with a cell phone slams into an Autonomous truck and dies it will be a billion dollar lawsuit even if it wasn’t the autonomous trucks fault.

Legal side of this will make it fail.
