Just to be clear ... I'm not talking about the posted rate. I assume the OP had called and told them what they wanted. Broker counters with a number, blah, blah, whine , whine thats all I have the load.

On a side note I've only taken one load off the board this year and two last year. Establish a relationship with 2 or 3 brokers and get better paying freight that never hits the boards.

Its a common tactic to get the load moved at the lowest price they can. Just tell them what you need to get to haul the load. If they don't agree on your price, just move on....

Hell yeah! When the market is bad and a decent load pops up, it will be gone with the first caller.
I have seen it so bad in 2016, that people were offering less than posted rate, just to get that load

I’ve said it to carriers before and meant it, I’ve also said it to carriers before and it be my smallest margin I’m willing to accept without being desperate. I’ve also said man I’m losing money at this already and that be the truth as well. So, there are some minor games in it but negotiating is one big game.

When I’m calling as a carrier sometimes I’ll say man I have to DH a ton on this when really I don’t lol. Fun and games sometimes make the world go round. :) A famous one I hear from carriers that I decided to apply at times is “I gotta call my driver, then oh he will only accept this much”. lol. When all my trucks are company and the owner ops I have are paid by the mile. So is what it is.

If you aren’t happy then don’t do the deal end of the day.

Its a hustle, they have a job to do. I have a job to do. If you can't get what you need, don't haul it. Move to the next load. Its how they treat us.

I am not greedy, I know what I need to make
For a lane. I ask for it and if we can’t come to an agreement I just move on. I don’t beat them up. Of course everyone wants $5.00 a mile. But not practical all the time.
Lots of times I take the rate offered and it’s usually a good rate. Over $3.00 a mile.
No use getting pissy with them

The brokers I work with the most just tack on whatever they want to make on top of my quote and they take it all to the customer. I've seen email threads and texts between these brokers and the transportation managers with my own eyes.

So I never really hear that from them. I rarely call on posted loads but when I do I always quote a few hundred higher than I really need to leave room for negotiations. Oddly enough, most of the time they just agree and send over the RC.

I have heard the, "I'm losing money on this" many times when I quote after they've called about my posted truck. In that situation I believe them. They're calling me. They need it moved. They're losing money!
