Just mostly always done it that way. Only time i ever split it like that was some dry van loads I've hauled before. But those times i had easy access to nails an boards to tack down proper bracing to keep stuff from moving. E tracks an straps are good for that purpose if your trailers are so equipped. Our reefers don't have e tracks so pallets against pallets seems to work best rather than splitting a load up.

We have shipping people that like to get creative, loading 20 1 ton more or less pallets stretched out so you have 34 k or more on the trailer with the tandems clear back, then, when confronted about why, they hammer them straight in so the drives are heavy with the tandems slid clear up and less than 37 k on the load(less than 75 k gross).

Just barely legal, unless I get lucky with a longer than normal slide trailer.

But what if you had a 2,000 pound pallet of feathers instead of a 2,000 pound pallet of lead?
Would that "rule" still be in effect?

    Standard pallet length.

We load 2800 lb salt pallets 3 single and a double times 3 to get it long enough to scale on a 53. 42k product plus 15 pallets scales out around 78k.

Clorox had a computer program that showed how to load every trailer. You brought a MTY scale ticket to the shipping office, they entered it in the computer for the load you were picking up and it spit out a load plan. Never gad a problem with weights, it was closely balanced. And maximized the weight you could haul.

    Depends on what you’re hauling.
Back in my refer daze I would haul a double stack load of frozen bread. 48’ double stack to the tail.
A load of ice pack chicken, 26 pallets loaded like the op said.

The correct answer to that is, “Yes you should.”
    And drive off.

As long as you have plenty of fuel, the load looks perfect to me.

A good facility that frequently does heavy loads will "usually" know how to properly load a trailer, and this person knew what they were doing. Saying to only put one pallet in the nose is fine if the pallet weighs 2,000 pounds or more, but if they weigh half that then 2 pallets are fine. If the load weighs close to 45,000 then on 24 pallets that's 1,875 per pallet and most reefers can handle 2 tons in the nose. I drive reefer and a T680 that is heavy, and it handles 2 tons in the nose easily.

With a reefer trailer i normally load 1-2-1 then double it out.

A word of warning tho, some shippers will rework a load for free if they load it over weight. However if the driver tells them how to load the trailer they charge the carrier for the rework. So becareful, sometimes you are better off to keep your mouth shut & let them just do them.
