Yes. Doesn't matter if the speed limit is 55 or 85. There seems to always be a need to "break the suction" when you pass. That sucking sound would be the pass blocker pulling their head out of their posterior orifice.

My brother beat a being in the hammer lane on 3 lanes rap in California. We did a written declaration, researching the law. He got a refund check with EXONERATED on the stub. The reason is we found the trooper cited the wrong trucker. The trooper should have cited the two truckers blocking traffic at 54 mph in the right two lanes. You can't block traffic. That law also applies to self righteous folks with their head up their posterior that speed up to block a pass. Just an FYI.

 

The bottom line is how many times a day or week do you go to pass a slow vehicle be it semi or car and all the sudden they have wings and stay by your side? Makes me go nuts...

When you have a seasoned driver do it that becomes uneducable... And they post videos on here...

Sometimes, when it's a four wheeler, they don't realize they're going slow until a truck tries to pass and then they wake up and put the hammer down. Annoys the crap out of me. The least they could do is let you finish the pass and get back over. Then they can go around on the left.

 

The problem is when the driver admits to his stupidity it trumps all

I'll focus on your "Makes me go nuts" comment. That's one area of my driving I've really focused on improving.

It's a natural tendency to speedup when getting passed. I'm guilty of it if I am free footing instead of on cruise control, and I make the effort to consciously reduce speed a couple miles an hour to facilitate the pass.

It doesn't matter if the driver passing me is over the speed limit or not, if they are comfortable driving a tad faster than me then let them flow. Slow a bit to build a safe following distance and then I get back to my preferred speed. I lost all of what? Five seconds by facilitating a pass? BFD

That's a phrase I taught my hot blooded wife. Just let it go. What's in the past is past. Water under the bridge.

Getting worked up about folks that speed up when you try to pass doesn't help you maintain absolute control of your mind set. Go with it.

This may be easier for me now that I drive an ungoverned truck. If I pass a "professional driver" cruising at 68 mph on a 70 mph freeway and suddenly he/she speeds up to block my pass I keep accelerating until they cry Uncle. I pull back to the right lane and get back to my cruise speed. Maybe they try to hang with me to make a "point", but eventually they fall away.

I never start a day of driving expecting to drive my preferred speed all day long. I go with the flow. If traffic builds up I kick out of cruise and "shift mental gears" (the hardest gear to shift) and concentrate on maintaining space.

Keep the space. Keep the peace. Stay centered.

 

I'd kept my foot in it. 4 wheelers usually get skeered when the triple digit is getting close and back out of it!

Doing even 90 in a 4 wheeler is scary next to a big truck!

 

An easy way to solve this problem not to go to California. Let them them choke on their ridiculous regulations in that state.

 

And you forgot the line on the map is east of the Sierras which demarcates where California will fall off into the ocean.

 

Good advice. I learned a huge amount of my stress was being caused by myself. The whole gotta-get-in-front-of-him mentality never ends.
