Never seen the dog myself, but have seen immaginary deer, people passing me on bicycles doing 70 and all kinds of other halucinations.

Sometimes your eyes will play havoc on you when you don't get sleep.

I've seen the little bugger - decided to cross a road when I was there - big rig and black Labrador at JBH max speed.

A long time ago I was doing some special training in the military and they kept us up all day, that night, the next day and the next night. That second night I was in a very dark place laying on the ground............
and I saw a swarm of rats coming at me, they came right up to my legs and I started kicking and swinging. My buddy thought I had gone crazy. I still remember it like it was last night.
I am real glad I didnt have a weapon in my hands.

I've seen him once, on my old route, that I did. I knew it so well I could've done it driving backwards, blindfolded, with my bottom on the wheel. Same old highways day in and day out. I finaly bought a map and looked at a few alternate ways to some of my stops. One day go one way, the other day do diffrent. Still made it to my last stop on time. Never seen him again.
Highway Hypnosis does that to a person, so I varied my route for a change of pace to help keep my mind alert to the diffrent changes, instead of sub conciously driving the same road over and over again.

I've never heard of this "black dog". Can anyone shine some light on this?

And I Second that.
But then again I have gone thru safety driving courses, Hazmats, Economic driving courses and drove tankers lately in our conditions.
I can average 7mpg with 63tonnes and 7 axles on a 700hp Scania V8 going 52-54 and governed at 56.
Welcome to the 22nd Century.
All about driving a big rig is that you have to always be prepared to give up on something... may it then be braking acceleration or turning otherwise you´ll end up #### creek.

Yes, I've seen that #### black dog! I left Visalia CA, headed for Paso Robles, CA, after having been up for the last 24 hours. (Sitting at the hospital with a dying grandmother.) My cousin was trying to make it up to Visalia when her car broke down, leaving her stranded. So off I went...

I made it to Paso Robles in just under 2 hours, and on the way back, just about Kettleman, it jumped out in front of me! Did I swerve? NO! Did it move? NO! Did I hit anything? NO! Did my cousin see it? She was white as a freakin' ghost! All she will say is that she saw "something".....

Go figure. I have sworn NEVER to drive while that worn out again, and so far... I have stuck to it.

OK you either have jets on your truck and there was no traffic or I need to get out my hip boots because 800 miles in 5 hours means you were going 160 miles an hour.:biggrin_25526:
