If it was a new variety of flu that was much more infectious than the usual flu (which it is), and killed considerably more infected folks (which it does), particularly the elderly (which it does), maybe a few more folks who think we’re overreacting would take it seriously.

And by all means wear a mask if you have it, you’ll infect a lot fewer folks. But if you’re trying to avoid getting infected, you’re much more likely to catch it from touch than by inhaling it from the air. That’s why the CDC is pushing hand cleaning.

Hey, I've still got a case of Tyvek suits that I used as disposable coveralls when greasing/servicing my truck on the road! Well, off to eBay...

This! That's exactly right. The only thing a facemask does is prevent droplets from flying from a cougher or sneezer into the immediate air, or onto surrounding surfaces.
Airborne virus particles penetrate most all of the masks. They DEFINITELY go around the mask "seal", because they do a very poor job of that.
They can infect through the eyes, or ear canals.. or any open scratches/wounds that are exposed.

The majority of infections are coming from direct contact.. whether that be with an infected person or not, a CARRIER... and then the new recipient transfers it to their face.

    Rideandrepair and tarmadilo Thank this.
