Most of the time I run mine on level 1 or level 2 if heavy. Only ever turn it on level 3 if heavy going down a 6 percent grade. A few years ago, truck was slowly derating unbeknownst to me, and engine brakes were not working at all. There were some hills I had to go down in 5th and 4th gear to hold it back.

    Oh and Straight Pipes Matter

I think the signs say their use is prohibited, not that it's like a radar detector as far as having one that's not being used.

So you were saying that such a citation could say a driver was using compression brakes, simply because the truck was so equipped, even though they weren't actually on at the time, since the driver couldn't prove it, unless they were muffled, and wouldn't possibly make that much noise? Versus a citation being issued for them not being on, except that the truck was equipped...

    No.

Let me start over since you just totally confused the dickens out of me with that round of double speak.

I was lamenting that a driver in a truck with a QUIET brake could be issued the same citation for using it in a "no jake brake" area as the ones who are the intended targets of such ordinances, which would be the ones with the straight pipes.

In my opinion frankly, that is total crap.

The newer muffled ones I think you can darn near use anywhere within reason. The guys that drive me nuts are cruising thru the parking lot in 1st gear @ 2100....the ###### fan makes more noise than the truck!!

    Bean Jr. Thanks this.
