I run into LS guys that are similar, less so on the platform side. The good ones ‘feel you out’ - might take weeks.

I understand it too. You can’t go giving gravy away, or ruining a good relationship with an agent by pulling a careless driver into the mix.

The other guys bashed you up pretty good on your post, but their replies pretty much sum it up.

I was leaning toward a ‘large car’ for the comfort - flatbed in summer gets nasty - I like a shower and fresh clothes.

Pre EGR and older trucks scare me none. I’d rather have something anybody can fix, than a warranty.

As said, you simply buy and replace parts, maintain and repeat.

I spend 30k a year on it - easy. But it has never been broken down on the roadside, or on a hook.

Hook and dealership could hit you $5k - why not spend it on PM?

I have a 99 379, new motor 2 years ago this month, no check engine lights, no derates, no def.
No $5000 dealer bills for guessing what’s wrong.
You have to replace a few things that newer truck don’t wear out but no payments and lower insurance more than cover repairs, my truck has 1.7 million miles and is just as , if not more than a new one.
But you can’t buy a ragged out old truck and expect to run it hard and get ahead of repairs, you must find a good truck that has been cared for, the problem is one can not get financing on a 20 year old truck without a good banker.

Thanks for answering my question. I was looking to see what your personal experience was, not so much of a how to do it. Glad the Peterbilt is working out for you. It is a great looking truck.
