you'll get it. Take your time. Work with your instructor. I was quick to crank the wheel. My instructor recognized this and adapted to my backing style to help teach me better ways to jack and chase.

AND.... The OP is the exact reason I shed a tear every time I hear that truckers are classified as "unskilled labor"

    You'll get it.

20 years later I still have days I'd swear I never backed a truck up in my life. Other days, you'd stand there amazed it went in so well.

Seriously. I've only been at it a year, but I've had some days where I fail horribly to set up or I get a fantastic setup and I totally blow it while backing.

It happens to us all sometimes. Old and new.

i remember taking my cdl test and it was in a day cab pete and it was long, i still remember watching the students in the yard going wow how does he get that truck into that parallel spot, i would always tell them it takes practice but once you get you will never forget it

I had to adapt to backing a spread axle. It turns much different than a set of tandems for me anyway haha

Just wait, Anyway slow down take your time. Been at this almost 2 years and like others have said some days you got it some days you don't. Use this time to get some practice. Learn how the trailer moves when you turn the wheel, which way does it move? You will get better. Steer into the problem when backing and always have the hazards on. Good luck.

Thanks! I am aware even when I pass the skills tests I won't know how to back until I hit the road. I am just glad our school breaks up all the tests over the span of five Weeks rather than doing it all in one day.
