Truckers don't matter.
No seriously, they don't matter. Or at least, not more than profits for shippers, receivers, brokers, and trucking companies.
Pretty much, we get to choose between red team blue team and nothing much changes...Gearjammin' Penguin Thanks this. -
The whole red and blue party system is a joke. It should be a pro and a con party. Each one makes a 5 min or under video on each topic. Then the govt should just be an app. Log in with SSN. Watch a pro video. Watch a con video. Then hit yes or no.

I agree. $4000/ week gross doing reefer seems about right. That's if you are out 7 days.
7 days X 24 hours/day is 168 hours a week. A reefer driver is not driving all those hours but is working- backing into docks, opening doors, checking in/out paperwork fueling etc etc...Not to mention supervising the truck 24/7- making sure the temp is correct, nobody hits it at a truck stop, freight theft etc...
So, $4000/week divided by 168 turns out to be $23.81/hour. Thats a fair wage, judging by all the billboards and ads I see for jobs- $25/hour is about the average I have noticed.
$4000/ week for a truck driver. Thats 208k a year! Somehow I think there is more inflation to come- esp for food.Feedman and Northeasterner Thank this. -
I believe it has something to do with the tax code. If you are projected to earn over a certain dollar amount, the employer does not have to pay you overtime. The last job I had was local and paid hourly without overtime. The lack of overtime pay was one reason I left that job.

Haven’t had to deal with a lumper for over 20 years! Tankers is so much more relaxing. Having to be responsible for not wiping out hundreds of people or leveling a small town is so less stressful than dealing with lumpers and grocery warehouses.

My favorite place was one food warehouse which required me to break-down my palletized load. Why? My 40"x48" pallets weren't acceptable, since they used......48"x40" pallets!!!! And, yet, they refused to just pick them up sideways....

So, back when I worked for the mega-carrier with the yellow doors, dispatch would sometimes pay for a lumper, but if you unloaded the trailer yourself, you'd only get $35. So, I submitted receipts for "lumpers" with a lot of joke names. I'd usually get a laugh cashing one of them out at truckstop cash windows.....

15 years ago I was paid to unload a reefer trailer. It was those luncheables. They wanted all the pallets broken down so each pallet was a different flavor. After 4 hours I found out they only paid .02c per box. I was mad af.

Couple misconceptions here.
First, 6k a week gross for this market is entry level average 48 states otr in the current market.
Second, I think it's 2k a week net originally referred to so replace 4k with that in your equation. Also it's worst case scenario 70 hours a week single driver. 70 hours trucking is 100 hours normal job with overtime. So 20/hr in that scenario.
Is 20/hr so lucrative you will live in the road for it?
