You sit up front the first week to make sure they are straight longer if needed then you run as a semi team. I sit up front then take naps while they drive then when it's my turn if I get sleep I pull over and nap then back on the road. I've trained 11 students and haven't had any situations that were dangerous as of yet. If you want to make the big bucks without owning a truck you got to take some risk. In a year and a half I will own my truck and I want have to train anymore.

Just so you know, sitting up front even taking a nap is on duty time except up to the first 2 hours of your 10 hour break or up to the last 2 hours of your 10 hour break.

So it's pretty evident you would not make it doing a lease without the student. And ya after one week they are straight... That's comical. Good luck dude

They go through 4 weeks up schooling before they get on the truck with me they are not coming right off the street. Secondly I would make it without a student but if I can train to get ahead why not it's easy money to me.

With Swift, they reduce your pay by $0.05 per every mile they are on your truck. Subtract from that, when your truck exceeds 11,000 miles in the month, they further reduce $0.09 per mile.

It's .04 for students on the truck and the .09 is correct for excessive miles over 11000 but I will get that back at the end of my lease if I decide to buy the truck which I am.

Some of you that failed a lease purchase can NOT stand the fact that other people have successfully completed a lease purchase and OWN their truck now. In addition to being an efficient operator, it takes smart business decessions such as when not to save a penny now because you will lose a dollar later. The picture in my avatar was my second Century that I lease purchased from May Trucking. I have a photo copy of the clear title in my name as well as a photo copy of the first Century's title in my name as well. It was not easy but I never had any doubt that I would complete the lease purchase on either truck. May Trucking is an honest company. The fact that they pay weekly for the previous week was a major positive point. The worst point, Rand Mc Nally mileage.
I would still be trucking there but I developed severe night blindness and retired at age 62.
