I tend to think that video is bogus, anybody that knew enough or had enough sense to get that rig loaded and hooked up would know better, and never do that unless for a joke.
Years ago it was not real uncommon if we were just going a couple of miles, say from one end of a job to the other, to haul them with no tie downs, You don't even see that anymore.
I know af a guy that side loaded a side boom once, and the driver took off as soon as he hit the trailer. This was down by beaumont Tx, and he took the operator for about a 20 mile ride, part of it on I-10. he was just holding the brake and mad as they come. loljamespmack, kylefitzy, PoleCrusher and 5 others Thank this. -

Picture courtesy of state police, wish they had shown a picture of the ticket too. lol
A neighbor down the road, older newbie somehow got in the dirt hauling business a couple of years ago, rented a lowboy and was going to try his hand at hauling equipment. His first load was an excavator for his landlord. I stopped in while he was unloading it and he was whining about getting dirty. Instead of hooking on the tracks, he had chained up underneath the back of it. he is one of these guys that hates to get dirty or a hair out of place. I walked to the other end and he had chained to the hydraulic boom cylinder on the front instead of the tracks or any other part of the machine. He had 2 chains running to both sides, and said it didn't move. loljamespmack, beastr123, Lepton1 and 1 other person Thank this. -

nope just has to be secured, prevented from movement and protected from abrasion/cuts/etc.jamespmack Thanks this. -
I think all they can actually do is write him up for load not being secured, just like they can if a piece of gravel is on the deck.
I would think ant dot officer that came across that would go over everything else with a fime tooth comb, and no telling what else he could come up with.
jamespmack, misterG and Lepton1 Thank this.
