I've got an old friend that went face first into a rubrail due to a Chinese breaker bar..lost an eye.

I had the end break out of a bar, knee slammed into ground.. that’s why i knew.
Another guy had the end of the hook pull apart of chain and knocked him on top of head under dew rag.
Knocked him out, when he came too, he took off the rag, had three bumps on his head, he rubbed his head and said, “Ahh, Dude.”
We were showing him the hook, he thought someone hit him from behind while he was tightening his chains.

Wow! It doesn't look like the bar was solid.

Appears to have the button on the end of it to help prevent slipping out of the hole in the winch drum?

I have one like that and one that is just knurled on the section that goes in the hole. I like the knurled end much better myself….

Meanwhile in the c. h. in a. factory:

    - “Any way we can make these cheaper? Scrap metal is expensive these days…”

    - “Yes boss I have an idea, it will also let us pile more into a container - they will be lighter. It’s a win - win.

    - “What could go wrong?”

    - [both chuckle and leave the room]

Well I’m definitely not gonna defend truck stop garbage, but I had one for a bit longer than that and to maximize tightness I would put all 240 lbs worth on the bar and it never broke like yours

I’ve been using the same piece of drill stem for the last 30yrs. Looks the same now as the day I picked it up off the ground after the driller hurled it in disgust. That’s been one of those high return on investment deals.

The one I have is one of those yellow ones that you used for ratchets on one end and snap binders on the other. I bought it when I started out because I got tired of using rebar. At my last flatbed job I cut it and welded it back together so it would fit in the toolbox on the truck. It lasted at least that long without breaking.

    CAXPT and D.Tibbitt Thank this.
