Thinking ahead. What companies allow o/o drivers access to full load boards?

3 years experienced OTR company driver here. If I decide to pull the trigger on buying a truck, I will not start with my own authority. I have heard that some companies allow access to load boards for o/o drivers.

Schneider and Lone Star for example.

Do you drive under a company's authority, but have access to a load board? What pro's and cons? How often do you get bad info from the load boards? Do you ever find a load you wanted has been double-booked? What if the pay rate is not correct? Do you eat the difference, or does the company, since they gave you bad info?

I was leased to USA for 2 months before I went out on my own and they have a load board... Its ok they pay 68% of line haul. Not the greatest pick of loads though. Landstar has a pretty good load board. I Have a buddy that runs that load board and he loves it. Only downfall is they take 35% right off the top. 35% is a big hit when your load grosses $7000.

I'm with Schneider...six months now. Their load board has been very good for me. I have yet to have an issue with bad info or double-booking. the only problem I've had in six months is bad planning from "box" (trailer management department) twice...but I can live with that low frequency of problem.

We get 65% of line haul and 100% of fuel surcharge and any accessorials. They cover a lot of expenses in their 35% that guys with own authority or no-frills carriers pay themselves. There is no dealing with brokers. Freight is plentiful. I've heard others complain occasionally but they are generally the type that always expect a load to pop up in the adjacent driving paying top dollar going exactly where they want to go every time they're ready for one with no planning...the world just doesn't work that way :).
