I no longer work there, but I harbor no ill will. Conway is just adjusting to the reality of trucking today.
When I started, the average length of haul was just under 700 miles. A year and a half later, it was just over 500 miles. When I started, Conway had some prestige in my mind -- they didn't take just anyone and demanded 99+% service. When I left, they vastly expanded their training program and were beginning to equip trucks with automatics, driver-facing cameras, were providing routing & fuel solutions, just doing a lot more hand-holding in general.
I made over $52k/year while there, but there wasn't much room for advancement outside of teaming or training. And they didn't have much freight going to/from home so I never "passed through"
It is a fine place to get your 2 years' experience and, if you happen to live in one of their main lanes, maybe make a career there. It just wasn't a great fit for me...

Would be much appreciated if more new CWTL drivers would post general salary amounts on a semi regular basis.
Funny how when a new driver begins excitedly reporting on the company dogma and about how other drivers that left just 'couldn't hack it', it's usually a few scattered and optimistic posts for awhile.
Eventually the exuberance leads into a slight tilt toward a general feeling of confusion.
And finally the attitude develops into a total feeling of helplessness...
("I worked 100 hours and all I made was $450.00!" or "My truck is broken down again!")
and then.....
a fade to black and total absence.
Bye bye 98 percenter!
Guess they just 'couldn't hack it'.
Personally, I very rarely met any driver (experienced or otherwise) that broke the $50 k mark, and rarely, if ever, did I meet any drivers (other than trainers and/or team drivers)) whose average length of haul was much over several hundred miles, if that.
Of course, nothing beats through all the malarkey like actual experience; so step right up and join the Conway team, especially if you have no bills to pay and/or any family to support for the next two years.
And do keep those cards and letters comin'... hokay?Last edited: Sep 21, 2015

Been with conway for 6 months, not bad would break 60k mark but with this xpo buy out freight has become soft and a lot more unfriendly over the past 2 months.
-
The XPO acquisition was only announced in Sep! So there's no way that could have anything to do with the amount or "friendliness" of freight for the past 2 months.
I don't understand why people jump on a website and spout off about things that they know NOTHING about!paul_4lp Thanks this. -
If you keep the left door shut and work you can do okay there. If you want to hang out at truck stops or terminals and gripe about not getting miles then you're guaranteed not to hit the $50K mark.paul_4lp, Surfer Joe, Dreamboat and 1 other person Thank this. -
What the heck is friendly freight?
paul_4lp Thanks this. -
Not ########, when the ceo of conway left abruptly in Jun thats when my milage began to drop. Not a lot I didn't notice as I was up in th north east, but in the last month I am having less than 2000 mile weeks, and rather unfriendly frieght.
-
Again, same question, what is "friendly" freight?
paul_4lp Thanks this. -
It part of the Conway company statement. Part of conway mission is to get. Driver friendly freight. Funny gryphon you must be on a conway team or dedicated. What's you truck number because that conway facebook page has a lot of complaints on the lack of driver friendly freight, and I do keep my door shut and drive. Been getting one involuntary 34hr reset every month and losing a day and a half a week. From waiting for freight

if my freight isn't friendly, I just close the doors on it and start driving...now that I think about it, even if its friendly I close the doors on it and start driving...still don't know what it is to be unfriendly
