It becomes technically a No Passing Zone when you pass the sign that reads, Right Lane Ends, and the Fewer Lanes Ahead signs. Plus he had to cross double yellow\. There is a reasonable expectation people will follow the law and not cross over double yellow lines illegally to pass.
Two things he ignored-- single lane ahead which I was in and the double yellow lines protecting me in that single lane. If anyone pushed anyone, it was him pushing me out of my own lane.Make no mistake about it, double yellow lines protect you the same as a red light at an intersection. It would be like you saying I went out on my green light and it was my fault someone blew their red light and we had a collision.
I find it preposterous that you would suggest the fault is with me for not slowing down; that it was somehow my inaction that caused this guy to break the law and risk lives. Do you admire what this guy did? A little throwback to the outlaw days of trucking, a modern day Smokey and the Bandit fascination?

Sorry to break it to you but it was your lane that was ending, not his. It's your responsibility to yield regardless of how it effects the trucks behind you.
That said, I agree the guy isnt totally innocent. -
There is no yielding on the highway. Where do you guys come up with this stuff? Nothing in all my decades of driving suggests one must yield to those who exceed the speed limit. I will post the full 3 minute video for you guys here, you will clearly see the signs leading up to the end of the passing zone. \\
If you want to use the yield argument, then using that logic, it was his full responsibility to yield to me since I owned the final remaining lane which the passing zone was narrowing down to.6wheeler Thanks this. -

I know this is going to be hard to believe but I'm on your side of the fence on this one.
You were already merging left and he then came up on you at a much faster rate of speed, one assumes you were doing the exact speed limit so he would have been speeding. You merged left and it should have been obvious to that driver that you were going to claim that lane before he could have legally beat you to it. Which he didn't even illegally beat you to it.
He was obviously trying to pass "just one more" before the merger and should have been able to see the oncoming truck in the other lane.
One could claim defensive driving concepts and say you could have seen him coming up like a total ###### and adjusted or moved... If an accident resulted then defensive driving could have helped lessen or avoid it... But again, totally his fault for putting you in that position.
In the end, ultimate responsibility goes to him for pushing the edge and squeezing in just one more. He should have backed out of it.
{OMG, did I just agree with Scottie???}JReding, G13Tomcat, scottied67 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I see it all the time. The truck drivers drive just like the 4 wheelers. They can't wait, follow the person in front with only a few feet in front of them.
Big hurry, only to gain a few minutes of timeG13Tomcat, scottied67, roshea and 2 others Thank this. -
I showed the vid to my gf and she ageees with Scottie which means I must agree with Scottie lol

Unfortunately, 287 is like that. Once in Colorado some 65mph Super Trucker just had to pass two 62mph trucks on a blind hill after passing me on a blind corner. 20 miles before that he was going 50.
scottied67 and bzinger Thank this. -

This happens all too often.
I try to to slow down and move aside for ######## like these guys who aren't heavy and want to play chicken but to a certain point I'm only going to put up with a few a day. Later in the evening when they're crossing double solids to get in front while opposing traffic is up ahead, I start to get aggravated. All they're doing is driving dangerously for no reason. If 40 minutes later when we exit we end up at the same #### red light what was the point.cnsper, scottied67, bzinger and 2 others Thank this.
