going west out of boise, about 8 yrs ago, swift did what you just said, driving real slow in a very thick fog, two trucks rearended him, they both died

i guess you and swift slept better thinking it wasnt your fault

i NEVER stop in fog for that memory

I respect your opinion but I strongly disagree here. That Swift truck in my opinion did right, the two that ran into him did wrong. It was their fault for driving too fast in conditions that they obviously couldn't see in as apparently they couldn't even see a gigantic trailer in front of them. I hope this doesn't happen to you. I can't control what other people do, but I can control my own actions. Yes I will sleep much better knowing that I did everything I could. I stand my ground here, I will not drive if I can't see.

i dont drive slow, i dont race either, i just get to where i have to go, without delay

i think people who drive too slow are just as dangerous (if not more) than people who drive too fast

the former causes others to have dodge around them, the latter basically does their bobbing and weaving on their own

when i drive in snow, i drive as fast as my comfort zone allows, not one mph more, if i feel the roads are too bad, i go to a truckstop and go to sleep (if i can find room, of course), better yet, ii dont go out when the weather is bad, i dont mind staying home, the kids love it

i have driven across all of wyoming when it was nothing but a sheet of ice, i hate that uncomfortable feeling

i even made a thread about how drivers should not drive in ice and snow because it is too risky for their career

all of that being said, if i am driving thru fog, i drive, as fast as i feel comfortable, and i know there could be all sorts of things lurking past my vision, but i cannot believe driving 2mph in the fog is good for anyone, if you have to drive that slow, thru snow, ice, fog, etc, just get off the road

we need to stop talking conceptually and deal with reality, people will speed, people will text, people will cut you off, flip you the bird, brake check you and so forth

you cant control what they do, but you can control what you do, and when all is said and done, sometimes accidents are going to happen, and there are no laws, or dictates that will change that

this ice mess in michigan, we can all second guess everyone there, but stuff like this will happen. not often, but it will happen

as i said earlier, there are times when it is raining and some numbskull has his brights on, and i cannot see for about 20yrds, do i stop? thats more dangerous

there was some study done some years ago, i completely forgot by who

but it basicallys said, the safest driving is when everyone is driving the same speed

in other words, keep the flow of traffic, not too fast, not too slow

i sat in this mega's safety seminar once, they were teaching the smith system, the "rock in the stream"

i thought that was the dumbest thing in the world to teach anyone, but safety managers love it

Mr Ez that was a high speed post. Can you please slow down. By the way how can you control getting to your destination without delay? Unless you are acting like one of these jack ball, hot dog eating, relish breath, pound scum, biker cranked out yahoo's?

Mr Ez I'm not sure if you live in lala land, oz, or on some rainbow with my little pony and friends, but you need to wake the TRUCK up. Snap out of your delusion. Everybody's not going to go same speed. You have elderly, you have the lost tourist, you have the governed trucks, you have the euro guys in the white volvo's. You have the honda civics, the big motor pick up truck who likes to rev his engine when he passes you, you got most of those people distracted by phone, people in car, or they are wondering if when they get home if the mail man still going to be giving priority service to his old lady if you know what I mean. So again sir snap the truck out of your delusion. I need to go to bed, and now the the thought of my old lady being serviced by the mail man is fresh on my mind. Dang u Ez dang u!!

You admit that there may be things lurking beyond your vision (perhaps a family of four, perhaps a motorists changing a flat tire) yet you still insist driving slow is more dangerous. I don't understand.

I agree with you saying that you won't drive any faster than your comfortable with. Neither will I, but realize my comfort level could be slower than yours. I'm doing the same thing you are.

Your also right that accidents will happen, nothing is ever going to change that, you can maintain your speed though you can't see and kill the poor guy changing his tire, or you can slow down and risk someone killing themselves by rear ending you.

I also agree that keeping with the flow of traffic is safest, not driving to slow or too fast. But only when it is safe to do so.

Between these latest type of crashes and that one in Joisey where the Wally driver killed that comedian, I can see the future, and it doesn't look good...the headline will read "DOT Mandates collision avoidance equipment on all CMV's" (as in ON-freekin-Guard) I worked for Crete when that driver in FL crushed that van load of kids into that bus killing them all...they installed OnGuard on all their trucks (except a few hundred that got the Mobile-eye system when OnGuard was developing their newest generation of collision avoidance systems) they sucked because not only did they pick up and slam on the brakes when it saw an invisible object, but it would also slam on brakes for overpasses, guard rails and occasionally the 4-wheeler that was in the other lanes. Now they're installing driver facing cameras to see what you're doing when you crash.

a motorist changing a flat tire in the middle of a highway, or a toddler hitch-hiking could all happen
