Probably thought he can make it pass too lol
If everybody can't see 10 feet ahead of them what makes you think they can see a frighten man swinging his arm like he's hitchhiking. Probably daze the drivers for a few minutes wondering what the hell he was doing out in the middle of the ro--- oh crap pileup!!
See?
This is what happens when you don't SLOW DOWN in bad winter conditions

i remember when i used to go thru there, and like you said, within seconds, there was zero visibility
i presume most of the people there know that, and the figured they would plow right thru it, but lo and behold, there was a pileup at the end of that rainbow
we all do it, how many times is it raining so hard, you cannot see, NOT ONE BIT, but you know you cant stop, but you cannot see whats in front of you, you try to make out a light or a line, but its almost impossible
but continue you do, because stopping is not an option
i have had bright headlights blind me on a rainy night, couldnt see for about 5 seconds, if there was a pileup at the end, i would have hit is, because you cant see, you cant stopMike2633, Tennesseahawk and peasantgirl Thank this. -
Even at 30-40mph in dense fog, you'll be surprised how much you don't have to stop in when something NOT moving comes into view...There is a HUGE difference between coming up on slow traffic and traffic that's NOT moving at all...Your first thought when you see the taillights(if they have them after their problem) will be to slow, if that traffic is STOPPED, you will hit it by the time you begin to slow and realize slowing won't be enough...When it's soup, if you don't want to pull over, you're 70+' long, better to let someone not being as careful run into the back of you instead of you doing it to someone else...Fog is generally localized, slow and steady will eventually get you out of it...

Why the heck to people keep driving into it?? Gaaaaah!! I can't watch the top one all the way through. A couple people look like they are in cruise control until the final seconds before impact.

The CB radio is for what you can't see, like around the bend or, in this case, through the icy fog. Every truck in that pile up should have been telling those approaching of the situation. Those who didn't monitor ch19 and failed to stop are negligent in every way.

Common sense can't tell you what's around the corner or just over a hill. Nor can common sense see through fog or heavy snow.allniter, "semi" retired, The Admiral and 1 other person Thank this.
