if they had the means to own a truck. they wouldn't be hauling cheap with a rented truck in the first place.
i really don't think it's a bad idea. it would be beter if they got paid what the load pays. and the end game didn't end up the way it usually does.

OK. This is the only way I can put this. I am looking at a decent late model truck that still has warranty.
$60,000 at 7% interest for 6 years is $1,024.94 per month!! (yes I know the interest is steep...but I am trying to make a point)
That is only $256.23 per week!!!! And that is on a truck with warranty!! Want something newer....probably a bit more!
The point being this. Save enough for a decent down payment (5K should do it)...keep a steady work history....and get your own truck and pay the bank/finance company. Now its your truck!! Put it to work!! Company pisses you off and screws with your miles.....take your truck and go elsewhere. YOU CANT DO THAT WITH A FLEECE PURCHASE BECAUSE THE TRUCK IS NOT YOURS!!! I REPEAT....DESPITE WHAT YOU SIGN THE TRUCK IS NOT YOURS....EVER!!!
I am currently looking at a real nice 2012 KW from an O/O that wants to get off the road. Will negotiate with him and the finance company this Tuesday. I hope to take it off his hands for a cool 65k and give the O/O 5K cash for walking money. Truck will be sold to me and financed in my name. O/O gets some pocket money (trust me he has enough to retire lol).
There is still warranty on the power train and truck! Whether you go to a dealer or buy the truck outright....MAKE SURE THE TRUCK IS IN YOUR NAME AND IT IS YOURS!!
Again. DO NOT LEASE PURCHASE.......EVER!!!!!!! -
Drive a business not a truck....MC262265, 1 company truck that I drive, 1 permanant lease driver, he has been with us 10 years. Had 12 at one time, cant find Drivers any more, not even good lease operators.

As I wrote earlier, if one cannot handle their personal finances which results in a poor credit rating, they have no business running a small business.
Epmtrucks Thanks this. -
Well SamTheMan, T Jefferson said an uneducated nation, or ignorant nation will never be free. The smart business people have made it part of their model, our nations ignorant. And Govt uses it as part of their control model. Creditors or Govt, will take your freedom, but you have choice. The persuit of hapiness is a right, but one has to be smart enough to achieve it. Thats the peoples responsibility. Jefferson also said about luck, the harder I work the more I have.

Company drivers have all the info they need, to learn the numbers, to start a busines, driving a truck.
-
company drivers DON'T have all the infor they need. they only see what they see. and there's LOT more to it then what they see.
a LOT that they DON'T see. -
You track fuel milage, labor, thats 75% of the cost plus parts & repairs, if you dont slip seat. Thats 90% of the cost total. Track it for 6 mos to a year, you will be light years ahead of other beginers. You will know revenue per mile from anyone who you may want to lease to. Then do the math. Truck payment is subjective, a $15000.00 unit or a $140000.00 unit that will one day will be worth $15000.00 and you will have to work On it anyway. There is more info out there than you think, seek it out if you want to drive a business with a truck. Its the peoples responsibilty to educate themselves.
