Ticketed in AZ for only having one plate on the front of my truck

I don't know, but this is ridiculous. That, along with the other ridiculousness he cited me for ran my tab up to $1800.

 

Funny thing is, while they're busy nitpicking legally placed single plates, plate display lamps, window tint and a multitude of other chicken #### stuff, thousands of pounds of narcotics are making their way to a city and town near you. These low hanging fruit, nit picking jokers, are a smuggler's dream come true, along with being a disgrace to the L.E. profession....

I never said you can't tint.... just that fmcsa sets the level of tint for cmv

 

you do know that they do have a roadside test to check the tint level right

Exactly correct. We had this happen to our company also. We got a ticket for not having 2 plates, but we did some research and it depends on what state you are registered in. We fought the ticket, and had it overturned. Now, like you, we keep a copy of that statute in our permit book and haven’t had a problem since.

 

Ok I’ve dealt with this issue four times in the last couple months. You can’t argue with the idiots so I tell the drivers to take the ticket and send them in to us. We have had two dismissed and two other in process to be dismissed.

what my lawyer had written up to send in with the tickets is that the state of Arizona is violating the interstate commerce clause by targeting out of state trucks to ticket them for a violation that doesn’t apply to out of state trucks within the border of Arizona. Arizona doesn’t have the right nor privilege to enforce other state’s laws. He also put in it that the state of Michigan issues one apportioned plate and recognizes the placement on vehicles used for commercial purposes can be on the front or the back.

Trying to apply Arizona law or regulations won’t matter, the home state where the truck determines where the plate goes and if there is no problem in the home state, there there isn’t in any of the 50 states or Canada for that matter.

the same goes for tinted windows, the state as most do follow the FMCSA regulations, 70% transmission of light or in other words 30% tinting. I went through this twice for trucks that had drivers who had medical reasons to have tinted windshield and window, once in New York and Alabama, both times they refused to remove the tinting and took the tickets, again these tickets were dismissed.

 

I wish rules had more consistency. Even up here BC issues 2 plates for a truck.

I believe Alberta issues only 1 plate for commercial trucks. I can't find anything to confirm but I usually see them mounted to the front of a tractor-trailer and on the rear if its a straight truck.

 

If it's that important, a real simple solution, but apparently goes over the heads and under the feet of politicians, would be to just have every State issue two plates. There, see how easy that was, compared to years ago when every state required that their plate or sticker be displayed, and had to be placed in a specific location on the truck.

If you actually think about it, with today's advanced technology, we really don't need plates anymore, but I digress...
