We are at our company yard and Saw this on the trailer tandems during the pre-trip. Sent these photos and video to the owner son in charge of maintenance and he is calling the on call Mechanic to come change the tire.
I’m new so I have no idea what is a big deal and what isn’t. Should I have bothered with this or is it worth having it changed out?
Tire cracks on pre-trip inspection, change it or run it?

Great job! That can be the start of a tread separating, which will tear the crap out of the equipment. Also, if it comes off and causes damage to someone’s vehicle, the company would be liable. And, that can possibly roll downhill to you. Again, great job!

It’s cheaper to replace that tire at the yard than it is on the road, and a questionable tire should be replaced…. Our mechanics call them maypops for a reason.
-
Middle of summer I would’ve wanted it off my trailer for sure. Cooler temps and proper inflation I’d be a little more comfortable running it unless I knew the trailer wouldn’t be back around the yard for a while.

Keep up the good work. -
the mechanic agreed that the tire needed replaced and didn’t seem out of sorts about being called in on Sunday.
We are back on the road after a 2 hr delay and my wife is behind the wheel. Thankfully we allowed extra time for a nap when we arrive. No nap scheduled now but we should be able to unload at 8am in Lawrenceburg Tn and make our reload in Princeton, Kentucky by noon. -
I have been reading your posts from the start . And I have to say if all new drivers did things like you and your wife. This industry would be a much better place. Your attention to detail is really great to see... a lot of drivers would've missed that. And you probably just saved yourself a blowout... the rule I always have , is if I'm second guessing something or wondering should I change this out, the answer is always on the safe side. I'm sure it's saved my ### more then once.

Yea and kinda close to the sidewall too.
Sucky sucky. Just like in middle school after you dump your ugly girlfriend, it's time to change that rubber. -
I’ve worked for people who’d ga e said, “I think we can get another 30 days out of it.” and send you on..
Then when it blows out, rips a mudflap, knocks the rear lights out of trailer, wants to know why you didn’t say something, “We could have changed that, we don’t gotta wear them that far down.” -
Thank you, that’s very kind of you to say.
we are all unloaded, reloaded, showered and headed back to Davenport, Iowa.
