Hey guys, I have a brand new TK S-700 and yesterday was 120 F in Las Vegas. Went to get some ice cream … the shipper requested to set the temperature to -15 F … the reefer has been running for 8 hours and the best temp was -7 F. They refused to load me and now I don’t know is there a problem with the unit or maybe was the outside temperature? No codes or anything, should I go to Thermo King to check the unit for low Freon or something? Some of the reefers at this shipper were at -17 F, but the drivers said: Ooo it has been running for more than 24 hours.
What do you think? Should I go to Thermo King for a check up or this is normal in 120 F outside temperature?
TK S-700 new reefer unit on 35 hours can’t get to -15 ?

Too many variables….type of trailer
Trailer specs
How hot was wagon when you started precoolin are just first few that come to mind
but if it dropped to -7 in that heat
I doubt your unit has a problemRookie driver 956, ducnut and Verdel Thank this. -
120F, empty trailer, that's a lot of empty air to cool. Your setup is just fine if it pulls to -7 empty. If it were loaded, less air to cool, quicker cooling occurs.

Did you pre cool before going there or did you just roll in for a load of ice cream with the unit off?
doubt it will drop much more before the sun goes down, 127* temp difference is actually pretty impressive .. -
Curiosity question
Why wouldn’t the driver have that unit running while they were driving to the pickup point? Especially for an ice cream load. -

A reefer is meant to maintain a set temp, with a load inside the trailer; not make miracles happen that stupid people come up with.

You can’t even reason with some of these Shippers and Cold storages anymore. Get the unit to 15 below they tell you to back in you open the doors by the time you hit the dock interior temperatures back up to 50° plus the whole thing is gotten ridiculous.Rookie driver 956, Verdel and ducnut Thank this.
