Ok. Rand came out with the TND 500 a long time ago.
My 1st purchase was Winter 2009.
Gee, there is a tiny connector for an external GPS antenna on the back.
Yet still, in all these years, Rand has yet to produce or develop any type of GPS antenna.
The built in connector is smaller than an SMB.
Has anyone been able to fashion up something that works?
I have heard that some new International trucks are coming with built-in-the-dash Rand GPS units?
- If so, how are THEY being connected for GPS??
Surely someone must have a solution for this out there?

Why do you need an external antennae? Are you having connectivity problems?
-
My TND 700 does not have an ext antenna connection but both my TND 500 series units do. -
I installed the aux antenna, and with the unit set to gps info, I found it gave me 2 more satellites than without it.... should work for you even if it's not up at the windshield....

Rand has had them before in the Rand Store, but due to manufacturing issues they were not restock. Currently Rand is looking at the connector and trying to "beef" it up a little.
Some TND's did not come with a external TND antenna as this was in the production run for a certain run due to new molding plates being made.
I have testers run the TND mounted with velco on their dash faceplate with no issues. It will also depend if you go a lot of driving in cities with tall buildings or in mountainous areas.
Thanks,

And yes, some of the early units did not have the external connection in the back.
Finally - yes there are occasions where it (regardless of brand or model) can get what I call "dementia" whereby it suddenly shows you off the road or several blocks away and then jumps back to where you actually are. This has to do with multiple factors, including weather, buildings, RF interference, your truck, location, direction of travel...
