I can see it now.
Come to Oakley where you can drive specialized trailers for Van trailer pay.

It ain’t called a welfare wagon for nothing.
blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
That’s to the truck. $2 to the truck sounds better to me than $2 all in with your own trailer running the load boards, but maybe I’m not good at math.

Siinman, RJM1953 and blairandgretchen Thank this.

$2 a mile is still junk no matter what. -
-
But for reference, back in 2019 when everyone here was crying about the rates and how brokers make too much money I was at about $1.90 to my truck pulling a food grade pneumatic and I know for a fact I was money ahead compared to a lot of others.
If you sat and figured it out I bet you’d have to be over $3 all miles with your own trailer running the boards to come out at $2 all miles if you took all the other associated expenses out of the picture. -
Truck prices?
Tire prices?
All costs have skyrocketed since then. -
First year in 2015 - $1.67 all miles. -
I'm renting a trailer and paying insurance. It's about $600 a week.
Running at 90% of what I book.
So if i did 2500 miles at $3 my carrier gets .30 per mile. Trailer and insurance comes to .24 per mile.
Would leave at $2.46 after those costs.
So still above $2 a mile bros but not by a lot.
Thankfully I still do above $3 all miles booked but it's OD loads and shorter runs.
If someone was running van/reefer with the rates I'm seeing and hearing about and paying insurance, trailer and giving company a percentage then yes it would be a complete disaster right now.
