Last owner I talked to did expedited car parts, with his wife. He owned a second one, with a husband and wife team in it, doing the same. He was open about rates and it’d definitely be worth it, if someone had a partner. He picked up five orders at my shipper, at $12/mi, and had 8hrs to be ~560mi away. They do a lot of sitting. But, when it’s on, it’s on.

Oh for sure. Staying away from brokered loads would make sense. Sometimes it can't be avoided though, which is why I bring it up.

I asked a driver with one and he had to know weight (35k or less) when taking a load.

After 11 years teaming in a 63" bunk, and 3 years of owning my own T2000 - I bought the 95 Pete with a 120" sleeper. 320" wheelbase.

I'd always wanted one - especially after getting into flatbed, for a shower and toilet. Cost me less than $50k. Needed a little work.

Hooked to a 53' combo spread flat, I can haul 42k. Total overall length 80'

With the step and flat extendable, 37,000 pounds.

120" sleeper is 34" more than a 86" studio sleeper, like a KW. The difference is just the setup, making much more use of the space. They're hardly luxurious, spacious or fancy - just better use of space.

I never wanted to haul heavy - 80k on 5 axles (or 6 with the step extendable) is fine for me. It's a 12.7 S60, not a heavy haul spec. I do fine with what I've got.

And - if you have ever woken at 3 in the morning after a bad burrito - you'll really appreciate that crapper right there in the truck. And a shower if things get real bad. And the roof top air, cable TV, full size fridge/freezer, microwave, running hot and cold water . . . .I'll shut up now.

The 53’ combo spread flat with a bunch of equipment was roughly 12k -

So at a push, 45k payload was still possible.

I just always looked for light freight and almost never scaled close to 80k gross.

Guys with standard sleeper WS would be close to my bobtail weight.

I’m always fascinated by folks that find the bigger sleepers a mind boggling restriction on earning a living. Heck - you see some long wheelbase show truck ‘cool’ rigs that present the same challenge.
