The whole reason I got onto trucking is the convenience of having your bed with you at all times and being able to PowerNap or take a hard 4 in the middle of the day if your body says you need it.

We tend to do a fair amount of moving on our 10 in the milk industrie. Some nights are cake with minimal moves, some nights suk. Even on some of the hardest nights at the dairy my body will still wake up knowing my Clock is good again and it is time to roll.

But I pull over and power nap that some times can turn into a 4 hour nap. But that is good. It is your body telling you you need rest.

Only time I have driven dangerously tired since I started this life 3 months ago was when my 14 was squeezing me for my appointment.

In milk u risk burning your 14 long before your 11 drive clock most of the time

This was before I knew I could readily Claim a Extra long 16 hour day once a week .

    @Shortfreightguy

    Safety FIRST.

Send an electronic message stating you are too tired to drive and that you do not feel SAFE.

Let dispatch know about when you'll be ready to roll.

Get your proper rest on your 10 hour break and don't make this a habit or you'll be deemed unable to perform your job duties.

It is best to find a company that is more suitable to your sleep schedule than to drive while you are not fully rested and alert.

You have one life. No freight is worth losing it.

I am the Captain of the ship, it is my CDL, my life, and the lives of others around me. If I get too tired, I shut down and rest. I never sent a message to my dispatcher unless I couldn't get there for my appointment.

Yeah, because we've never had to deal with a noisy loud ### reefer or apu running next to us

I never had an issue sleeping next to a reefer or APU, but some of the idlers and their variable RPM's wake me up.

I agreed to be the on call driver for a company. I had no idea they would call me day or night. So even though I had been off the day before, I went to bed at my normal time, around 10. I get called at 1 am. You have to go. I had only been with them a few weeks and needed the job. So I went, right into a ditch 45 minutes later. Better to lose a job than take that hit. My first accident of any kind in over 30 years.

    I seldom take a 10 hour break or a 34 hour reset.
    Why?

Because I average my hours to allow me to run recap hours. That means an average of around 8.75 hours per day.
I take longer breaks. Which allows me to watch a few shows, cook a good meal, play at a casino... whatever, for a few hours every day.

I also do not get too tired to drive running my hours that way.

I may have a 14 hour day from time to time, but I normally get at least a 12 hour break before driving again.

This job will NOT be the death of me or someone else because someone wants to push me into running too hard.
I simply refuse to do it.
