You are 100% wrong, you may not possess a pistol in NY state without a NY permit, period. The only clause for transport if you are going directly to an approved event to shoot then immediately exiting the state.

I see you are an IL resident, so yes you can carry obviously. But for me as a non resident I cannot. Again, you're giving out half assed information to people.

It is unlawful for any person to carry, possess or transport a handgun in or through the state unless he has a valid New York license.

There you go, that is straight from the NRA's website. Chris887 you really need to check facts before spouting this "advice". I know you mean well, but you're going to get someone into a lot of trouble.

This is why I wish there was some sort of federal carry card so we can legally carry all 50 states. Hmm why is the government making it hard to cary!? Hmm

I totally agree with you. I looked into awhile ago, when I saw all the different laws where I ran it just made more sense to leave it a home rather than run afoul of some law I interpreted wrong.

I think maybe this driver was carrying something that resembles a pistol.I've seen lighters that looks like a gun. I dont think he would have it out in display like that if it were a real gun.We have cops now driving trucks to catch people that text and drive,if they was to get out and fuel their truck they would carry the gun under their jacket or so its not noticeable.

Considering there was a driver arrested on the NJ turnpike last week for wearing not only a pistol on his hip in plain view, but a pistol with a magazine larger than 10 rounds and hollow points to boot, I'm going to give the OP the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Not going to get into the cross state lines..carry debate etc..but as for in plain sight...it IS legal in certain states---you see people in Az open carrying all the time...
and as for law enforcement carrying...I do know of 2 Pa State Troopers that both drive part-time for a friend of mine(in state)and they are required by the state to ALWAYS be armed...but both just keep the ankle holstered throw downs w/em
