First thing I do is right before I get off the interstate is to engage the interaxle locks. Then go park. Pull ahead and get the square point shovel out and dig down to solid ground where the tires are gonna be parked. Back up past and digs some more. then park on exposed pavement.
In the morning when everyone else is sit/spinning I'm going to work deftly steering around the idiots with my fresh hot bold intense Pilot coffee in hand.tscottme Thanks this. -
What do chains do? And can you drive without them ?

Wood ash works best and it's free.........

If you're just trying to get some momentum with a parked vehicle on ice, where there's plowed roads surrounding it, a flat shovel works (heavier duty than a snow shovel). Just clear some space around the tires and rock back n forth to get going, if that doesn't work on ice alone.
I'd rather carry one of these than a bunch of stuff to sprinkle on it. Yeah, looks like others have mentioned this too. I got one uponst finding that I was stuck on ice, and the chains I was given were too small (after I'd screwed with them for an hour or two in sub zero temps, in between trying to warm back up). Luckily someone came by and insisted on tugging my truck out of there (or I would have hibernated).Last edited: Oct 5, 2016
