You should keep a diary of sorts with employment dates/addresses etc. The older you get, it's harder to remember, but if you have it written down, you're OK. Unaccounted for gaps sends out red flags, the company hiring you thinks you were in the callaboose.

Prior to 2004---5 years +, use that period of time in one "previous employer" box that you were not employed and "growing up" as you put it. Remember, this is not a job where you are going to need top XXX government clearance to get started. This will be an "entry level" position, and by showing you are doing your best to be honest and upfront about your background will show on your record.
Be COMPLETELY HONEST. Traffic tickets, any arrests (adult), credit issues...because they will check all of this in the screening process..yes even your credit report will be looked at.
Good Luck...and stop sweating the small stuff...just do your best and be honest! -

I was employed from 6/99-6/02 then I was a stay at home Dad from 6/02-8/06 then employed again from 8/06-6/09. Driver Solutions verified my employment and approved me no problem. The recruiter asked about my gap from 02-06 but that was it.

I've had 2 jobs in over 35 years of working. My first job was for over 14 yr.s of which 2 were part time while I was still in high school. The 2nd one has been in a business my Wife and I started.Recruiters always ask about other jobs like I'm lying about something.I really feel like I'am being penalized for not being a job hopper.I don't know what the trucking business has been like before now and I still don't as I'am trying to break in,but I'am not use to having my honesty called into question.Am really starting to get very disheartened with the whole thing.Do all these companies really have so much to worry about as for as drivers are concerned?Do all the drivers & wannabe drivers have to watch their back so closely with every company out there? This is the main reason I want to break-in with an O/O so I can know and hopefully trust the person I work for & they can do the same with me.

I had an interview with a company a couple of months ago. The interview was going great until he looked at my application again. He had a stunned look on his face. He then muttered "You were at your other place for 20 years?" I told him the only reason why I left there was because I moved half across the country. He said that they don't see that much. I called back and he said that the position had been filled. Oh well.
