Tractor Weight Too Heavy? Specing a new truck

Cascadia 232 WB double bunk condo. One 120 tank, one 100. TK apu. Set of chains.

We tried converting another one of my trucks from a single bunk to a double bunk.......that bunk is amazingly heavy.

 

Yes indeed something to consider the 900 series is one of the more heavier KW trucks to compensate your going to have to get the loaders to go light on the front end of the trailer or like you said a much lighter cab or smaller fuel tanks would work you can always adjust the axles on the trailer to fix up the weight issues too unless you won't be towing anything with sliding axles. Lots of options here personally I'd go for a much lighter truck though..

 

Does an APU allow you to run heavier? How does that work?

 

The feds recommended the allowance, but didn't require it

 

280 WB 389 flattop X15 chains big carrier tool boxes 1/2 on all fuels to include Reefer fuel on new Everest can scale 45540. I have no APU. APu is where weight is wasted. Some states don’t even give an allowance for it.

 

I idle when it is around 72 and above or in single digits. Bunk heater when cold to single digits.

 

I don’t low idle. I had Pete set rpm to 850 on bump of cruise. I don’t idle much only during temps listed. Off it cools off at night I set an alarm and shut off truck. If temps fall into single digits I do the same. Too easy
