Without being there and seeing it myself. It's hard to say.

It might be as simple as your trailer chassis being under enough static torque to twist the tandem assembly just enough to prevent one of the pins from lining up right.

On the other hand. It's possible that the tandems have busted welds and bolts and is close to separating from the trailer, and you were lucky to make any adjustment at all without the tandems detaching.

Some trucks have no trolley brake controls these days. Mine doesn't.

I watched a truck torqueing up trying to slide the trailer tandems once. A gal was back at the trailer. I walked over to help before they got a driveshaft. Anyway the when I walked up it was apparent that it was already at the end, up against the stops the way they were trying to slide it. I told her, and she said, it has to slide to get legal, ok, but if it does you will be sitting on the ground. lol
She got the tcket and it did need to slide, but the other way, so I went up to the truck, another gal and explained to get it rolling and pull the trailer brake and grab the clutch pretty quick to break it lose. She ask what is a trailer brake, hmmm. So now I told her to get it rolling and pull trailer parking break and clutch it, What clutch she asks, yep no clutch, so I says, just carry on, the company needs to buy a driveshaft once in a while, if they can't buy a whole truck to start with. lol
This was back when autos were just starting to be seen. Iirc it was a US express. lol

Pete sure screwed up doing that on the 579’s.

How the hell am I supposed to check for air all the way through a set of doubles with a trolley valve that won’t stay put??? :biggrin_25516:

Mack did the same thing in that 2011 i drove. Plug your phone into the charger & drape it over the trolley while doing your pre trip

Only way I’ve found around that problem is a screwdriver in the top.
