I remember when Trans Am was a decent outfit, now just a means to the end for the owners. Pretty sad, more sewage for the swamp.

Ok folks listen up. I was the orientation spy at Trans Am. That’s right. I was so skilled, I could sniff out all new drivers with anti-lease ideas. Once discovered i put a gag, hood and ziplock bag over their face. Nobody ever saw them again. Problem solved.

Western Flyer Express seems to run under more or less the same business model from what I’ve heard and read. When you drive by their place in OKC, it seems they have more new and newer trucks sitting idle in the yard than they do out working.

I thought maybe this was a carefully crafted spoof a few posts back, but it is not... My first thought was "White Trash" that hit the lotto... I'm thinking that all of that wasted money could be put back into the company in the way of equipment, wages and benefits. Granted, it is their money and their company, shaking head. I bet the old man is a real winner too.

How this trucker became a Manhattan socialite

Inside her new $11.5 million apartment on a top floor of the Plaza Hotel, Trudy Jacobson is ready to party.

“When I play the piano, I’m usually nude,” she said.

Trudy and her husband of more than 30 years, John, founded TransAm, a major American trucking fleet, in 1987. But she decamped from the Midwest to New York about a year ago to “find” herself. (Trudy’s still married to John, who remains in their 5,000-square-foot manse in Kansas City.)

Actually when I worked there Johnny was really good to deal with. At the old terminal drivers could go in and talk to anyone they wanted, and Johnny himself would always hang out with the drivers. It wasn’t uncommon to be fooling along down the road and see him and a few offIce people running loads as well. Drivers were actually known by CB handle back then. Also there was never a day when you didn’t hear a wild Johnny Jacobson story(I guess he used to be a real hellraiser). And it wasn’t uncommon to see a few of their trucks running in groups, the drivers bs’ing with each other on the radio. It was actually a pretty fun company to work for.

Things started getting worse not long after they built that new terminal, and driver’s could no longer go inside and just walk up to the dispatch area.. they had to see a receptionist and then be escorted in. The night dispatchers were always a PITA(except for “Stony” who also drove at the time)but now are kept in an “off limits” area behind the front counter. The overall attitude started declining, and there weren’t as much “long” loads.(since I started at my current company 1000 miles is kind of a short run) . When Russ McLiar(“no this’ll never be a training company”) was made company president it really went to hell.

When my last company started to go under I called TA to see about returning there as a company driver. I promptly and rudely was told I would have to be a lease purchase driver. I just said no thanks and hung up. What TA is doing now is nothing more than Johnny & Trudy living high on the hog with money fleeced from rookie drivers.

Isn't this the story of so many outfits!!! I've heard this over and over about a lot of places. My buddy told me almost the same story about Smith Transport and the owner Barry.
