Patty, When we first moved out here, some 25 years ago or so, I had taken a job building/maintaining floater trucks that was 50 miles one way from house, I hated it, the job was just o.k. but I hated the drive back and forth, and I always thought that was so weird as I never minded driving as a living.

But as it turned out, driving to "make my living" was not something I liked, and I wasn't even in any heavy traffic, I don't know what it was about it, maybe just all those years of "living" in the truck and when you parked for the day you were "home"?

That lasted 6 months until I climbed back in a truck out here.

IF, (I know, big if) but if the job was forever, would you consider moving closer?

Echo all that - we're 160 miles round trip, even once a week it's a drag.

Your commuting would put 30,000 odd miles on your vehicle annually.

When I was with JB, my home terminal was in Emporia. It was a 2 hour drive to pick up my truck from Virginia Beach. My first day back was always a pretty tiring, especially when I had a load that needed to be 500 miles away towards the north east overnight.

On my home runs, they always got me into the terminal late at night. I would often stay in the truck overnight and turn it in the next morning. They used to get PO'd about it saying that other drivers needed the truck. I would just turn around and point to 10-15 trucks that were on the ready line.........nuff said! That stuff got really old after a while.

NO way I would do that Patty. Let alone for $175 a day.

If it were great money, it might be worth looking into getting a daily driver with better fuel economy, but I'm assuming that $175 is before taxes, your share of benefits, etc?

Same situation I was offered, same thoughts no way. But here's something

else to look into Patty! Father in law lives with us and we happened to

hear about a program thru the state that will come and pick him up

twice a week take him to the care center, feed him lunch, check his

Health give him meds, excercise class(sitting in chair of course) and

have him socialize with others. The other 3 days a travelling nurse comes

to the house, helps with shower, lunch and again checks his medical

condition. All no cost provided by the State and a huge burden lifted

from the caretaking, which you knom can be overwhelming, stressfull

and gives you a break. Check with your County senior services first Patty

hopefully they have something available to assist you. Hope this helps.

I drive 10 miles each way for $250-300/day. That's plenty. Although we do have one guy that drives 60 miles each way for about $175 for a 12 hour day
