You're right, I've never hauled those. I have hauled coils. I just have a hard time blaming other drivers when a load comes off the deck unless the other driver ran into the truck. You have to anticipate the worst case scenario, which includes hard brakes.

Who says coils are dangerous if secured properly?

“Properly secured” only applies to things before the securement system has a failure. Chains break, anchor points fail, I’ve seen rubrails ripped clean off trailers before.

there’s a very good chance the double T in this thread that as secured properly like all the other double Ts are. When #### hits the fan and anchor points are ripped out of the load, you’re just along for the ride at that point.

While I'll agree with that statement, based on the pictures and my knowledge of the area the hard breaking is squarely on the driver. I believe it's a 45 mph speed limit through there, with cars typically doing 55-60 and trucks doing 55 with a 5 second following distance. When going through there with a trainee I make them keep a 10 second following distance. Dollars to doughnuts the driver was driving too fast and not leaving himself an out. Even money he was on the phone and didn't see the light change until it was too late.

Now you're getting it! I'm willing to bet that a four-wheeler (which the writer of the article failed to mention) caused the "braking incident", especially since this occurred at an intersection.
