More details here. Driver has five years experience. He claimed he was only downloading but they have good evidence he had been watching the show Rust Valley Restorers for 20 minutes before the crash. Video of him driving past highway cameras. The audio of the show can be heard on his dashcam footage. Missed five signs including two with flashing lights spaced a mile apart before the construction zone. Sunny and dry. Cruise set at 67 mph, didn't apply the brakes before the crash. Terrible.
Truck driver charged in couple's death, officials say he was streaming Netflix before crashrunningman0661 and Flat Earth Trucker Thank this. -
What if he was reading a newspaper instead of watching Netflix?
Or working a crossword puzzle ?
Should we ban everything in the cab that can potentially distract him?
If he's a moron that is easily distracted , he will always be able to find something.Last edited: May 7, 2024

Saw a FedEx driver on I-40 Oklahoma a month or so ago doing something similar. Had a good sized tablet on the dashboard directly in front of him with a show playing.
I really regret not saving footage from my dash cam and posting it on YouTube. Just mind blowing to see this crap. I really want to retire from this business in the worst way before one of these morons takes me out.
I won’t even listen to the radio because I want to hear how my truck is running at all times..Bud A. Thanks this. -
Land of unintended consequences.
The ELD regulations clearly state the device must be in view and reach of the driver at all times.
They also allow the use of devices that are not dedicated for that one purpose.
Soooooo
Tablets and phones are allowed to be used as an ELD.
It is clearly against the law to use a phone or a tablet for purposes such as texting, sending emails, streaming video etc.
But when you require one to be there, the temptation to use it improperly is pretty large.
