I see you have the older dish. Not sure how much longer those will work with DirecTV. Once they switch over completely to MPEG4, you might lose some channels unless you upgrade to the wide-oval dish.

An oval 3 should get all 3 satellites and any ch. you could need.

DonHall - thanks for the pics! I am definitely interested in setting up the satellite because I plan to go OTR - can't live w/out my L&O reruns :) I really appreciate your help!

I had one of those "OVALs" while I was working on the Gulf Coast, but I was never able to align it properly, even with a D-TV guy out working on it. I suspect that the LNBs were bad. I havent heard anything about DTV switching over to MPEG4 or the necessity for using an OVAL. We only had to switch over to an OVAL at home in order to get local channels.

Thanks guys for the many informative replies on this thread. I just have one more confusing question about the older vs newer dish setups. Does anyone know for sure about the new "150 HD" channel system and if it will require a newer dish to get all the channels? I'm still trying to decide on the VuQube (Thanks bobbybigrigger) or the simpler "Hose clamp/U-bolt/Mirror mount Fiasco" . My gut feelin tells me that the VuQube will not be an easy remove/re-install when not using the truck. Plus,I noticed one of these on a guys Freightliner who told me that he had someone try to steal it the first night he parked at a Pilot TS. That part scares me!

HDTV in the truck???Are you sure you need it? I mean, I have an HD READY TV in the truck; a 20 inch LCD Flat Panel that has a picture 1000 times better than a CRT using standard broadcast technology. But I am sure that in order to receive the HD broacasts from D-TV, you will probably need an oval 3-LNB dish.

Roadkill, Now that I have had time to think about it,you are right. I too,use a Sharp 13 HDTV and a Samsung 1080 capable DVD player. To be honest,I can't tell much of a difference in picture quality compared to my Panasonic HDTV set at home. I quess the only thing left to decide is,where and how to mount the standard dish on my "plastic" Volvo! Some guy have the dish mounted on the passenger side mirror, but the setup I am most curious about is the "plexiglass" adapter plate fender mount deal. I talked to one driver who uses this and he says it works great. Also,he said it was his third go round with different dish mounting locations, and he found all the hardware online. Forgot to mention, my volvo has fender mounted safety mirrors, which can be used to mount. Seems that engine vibration would be the same, whether mirror or fender is used. Thanks for your input.
