Just curious are the lowlifes more common at the chains loves/ta/pilot than at independents?. By lowlife I mean people trying to hitchhike or asking for money for bus fare or saying they’ll clean your wheels for money. The few independents I’ve stayed at seem to not have em.

So low life’s exist at both!. I’ve only seen em at the chains. Had a guy try to sell me a gold chain in sc. At one pilot there was a bum right outside the entrance, if I was the the manager I’d call the police on him.

nope, they are everywhere....even the local milk store..

i went into such one, and got in with no problem, when i came out, the guy standing out front, begged me for some money..i went right back inside to store and <edited> about it, and a clerk came out and threw him out..

i am not beyond going over someone's head to corporate and complain to high hell.

enough of this begging BS..my late dad was a depression era child, and he told me some years ago, that he never saw so much begging now, then he did when he was growing up.....

most police and others recommend that we DO NOT give them money, as this confirms thier spot at that location to beg for more.

many times, (i was told) a high percentage of the beggars having something wrong in thier heads, like when they refuse a shelter, to get out of the cold...

they'd rather be on the streets, or sleeping in dumpsters.....

then there are those that just need a fix, or a bottle of muscatel.......or colt 45.....

many states, these beggars have the full support of the ACLU, and the cops cannot just "shoo" them away, as the ACLU says that these beggars have a right to support themselves, well then, go out and get a real job fools......

That's right- Even at a minimum wage job-Even Part Time- It will be enough to get you STARTED,or restarted!

$200 a week working part time at Burger King Shows me more incentive than begging, borrowing or staying in moms basement playing video games with some nitwit broads

As for the homeless and beggars- Get a part time job-something tto get your lives going again-

yes, MANY if not ALL homeless shelters let you use thier address for a job application, so one will actually have an address, that ALL employers require.

YES, even a bare minimum hourly/weekly job shows one is willing to get up out of the gutters, and grow.

but to many others yet, freebies is what makes them come back for more.

Seemed to me to be far more related to the area you were in then the specific brand of truck stop you were at.

I don’t see how trying to make some money selling rock salt or polishing wheels makes one a low life.

I second that. Sometimes people just need fast money. I can't tell you how many times I've taken care of someone who is homeless at the truck stop. I won't judge. I don't know their situation. I remember a guy at the Pilot in Little Rock that just wanted some food and a shower. I had enough points to buy him a foot long sub and enough showers to give him one. I feel like I'm fortunate to be where I am. It can all end so quickly and to see people on those predicaments is a reminder for me. If they want something to eat, what does it hurt?
