    Sad story.

I hoped I was going to read " Aamish buggy rear ends Swift, horse sustained a broken nose"

They are mostly real nice folks - lot of them around here.

We have a lot of Mennonites around El Paso. They come up from their communities south of the border to shop in town. The women dress pretty much like the Amish while the men usually wear what you'd see the typical midwestern farmer wear. Pretty quiet people though you can hear them speaking German. Used to get a free pass crossing the border until the Border Patrol caught some of them working for the cartels.

Amish use the roads, their vehicles should be registered by the state, have licence plates. I pay plenty for my vehicle registration, they should pay too, albiet less than a motor vehicle.

I remember nearly rear-ending one of these as a new driver circa 2001...

    Luckily I didn't... ;)

Hmm. Wonder how they would be billed for road use tax? No fuel used, so maybe a new tax on hay? :) I just wish they were required to clean up the horse poop on the roads.

I live around a lot of amish and Mennonites and for the most part they are a nice buch of people. I really think maybe we could learn a lesson or 2 from them they keep things simple and take everything at face value. If you say your gonna do it then you do it and the whole community all work together for a common good.
