Where did you hear that from? Now if you would ve said over grossed, depending on what state and how much over grossed then that would be true

Pretty sure I'm correct. Over gross is ok with a fine but over axle is OOS.

19k over gvw. But didn't get caught. When I screw up I don't mess around. I guess when your ignorant to the infraction sometimes you get lucky. That could of rang a bell down at the dot office.

Castaic CA 2200 pounds over on the trailer. Would not let me leave til it was legal. Had to hire a local guy to come out and he brought his employee with a pallet jack and forklift. 7 hours later, that little job cost me $3800 bucks. But I saved $10 bucks on the cat scale.

Bills showed 37,000 pounds, and my tractor gauge showed well within legal weight. What we didn't know was that the jackholes loaded cottonballs first half of the trailer then mouthwash all the way back to the doors which was about 8 pallets of mouthwash too many. Being California, set the tandems at 40 feet so all that weight behind the axles sort of 'teeter-tottered' the trailer weight off the 5th wheel faking me out about getting a cat scale ticket.

My company paid the bill up front then backcharged me for it but they did have the courtesy to write it up as a work order and I wrote it off on my taxes.

I think it depends on whether they are focused on safety or revenue the moment you weigh.

Two years ago my son crossed the Lavonia, GA. scale maxed out (balanced on a cat scale) and a defective trailer axle air spring caused the rear trailer axle to weigh 19k for a 2,000 overweight ticket that was about $150.

Recently I picked up my loaded and sealed trailer and ended up with a similar situation as scottied67 described. Bills said 36k, and I've hauled from this place often enough to know their bills are honest. I slid the tandems back to 41' and thought the drive air pressure was a little low but just ran it. I got red lighted into the Lavonia, GA scale and got the bypass lane. Then the new SC scale put me on the platform for a long minute, then green lighted me out. My plan was to fuel heavy in Spartanburg and just had a gut feeling so I weighed before pulling to the pumps. Trailer tandems were at 36,400. Shipper had loaded my 53 footer out to the doors. I had to slide the tandems out to about 43' to get legal weights and fortunately NC and VA weren't looking at tandem spread very closely. No tickets for me. Either GA and SC were focused on safety, or my Jedi mind trick worked (this isn't the truck you're looking for) LOL.

MO. will not let you go on down the road untill you get axel wt. fixed or throw whatever is over gross in the grass at the scales before you can leave, but you can be 2000lbs. over on axel and use st. hiway around scales to be ok. if your under 80.0000

Florida is nickel a pound. 6,000 or more over gross is OOS.
