I have a 2014 Freightliner Cascadia. Truck won't build air unless gear selector is on high side. If my selector is on low side ,truck wont build air. 1 mechanic told me i need a New Clutch, 2 mechanic told me its the Top Plate, and will charge me $1,500 to do a Top Plate repair kit. 3rd Mechanic said ,can i hear the piston slamming back and forth when i go from low gear to high gear. Which i replied yes. He said its probably a air came lose on the Top plate ,and he can replace the air line for little or nothing. Has anyone had this problem. And whats yall suggestion. Im still pulling loads to this day like this

I have no idea, but I’d go with the “little or nothing” dude and see if that fixes it. After all, it won’t cost you much if he’s wrong.
Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
Sounds like most of them think it is a top plate issue, with only one that seems honest enough to say it is probably just a loose air line.
The others want to charge you out the wazoo to fix what may be a very simple problem.
Frank, as usual, is right.Frank Speak and Bean Jr. Thank this. -
Usually it’s just an air line. There are o-rings in the shift lever handle, but you would hear it if it’s that bad.
Actually just shut the truck off, put it in low range. If it’s leaking that bad you should be able to track it down.
I had one truck where it was a gasket on the range piston cover on the back of the transmission. Cost was only $3.50 for the gasket and I was able to do it myself. -
i would take fix the air line that is leaking for $20 Alex.
Frank Speak, Bean Jr. and 062 Thank this.
