While it's difficult to eat healthy foods while working as an over the road truck driver, at the same time it's not completely impossible. The issue was always time. There were instances where if I had the time to stop in a restaurant for "real" foods, I would chow down on vegetables at the salad bar and sometimes soup. Personally, I have never paid over ten dollars for a meal at a truck stop restaurant. Since the price of food options on a fast food menu are somewhat similar to the meals that you would find in a restaurant, it would be better for a person to just relax and sit at a restaurant and enjoy a meal given that they have the time to do so. The ninety-nine cent choices at some burger joints don't count as "food" either. Heart-attack bombs would be a fitting term for that!

There are those that resort to preparing canned and prepackaged meals in an effort to eat healthy. While I applaud their efforts, those foods were usually packed with high amounts of SALT. Having a high stress sedentary job dealing with high stress issues while consuming salt and fat-laden canned and prepackaged meals just spells out a recipe for disaster down the line. I was there, eating canned soups, beans, and whatever else. Tuna became old quickly, and I was never a fan of canned vegetables (I like it fresh!).

I have found myself snacking out of boredom on the road. I've kept apples (courtesy of a certain California farmer that I would visit), raisins, almonds, and trail mix in the overhead above the driver seat for a quick snack, but for some reason I always wanted to munch on potato chips, one of my many food weaknesses while I was driving. Personally, I can attribute potato chips and chicken tenders for the weight that I have gained (and recently lost since coming off of the road).

Good for you guy...and we have some catching up to do, as I see your situation has changed since we last interacted on here...but we'll do it elsewhere...

But anyhow...back to your post...and potato chips...

Potato chips kind of became my weakness to...and later I started buying the chip dip...it was like the 'crack cocaine' of food...I quick ready to eat zesty meal...a fill in of sorts...

I had a weakness for those cheetoh red hot spicey chips or whatever their called...

I was putting trash in my body, but didn't care...I was bored, driving and all alone...

Anything...to help pass the time...and food or junk food, just kind of becomes your companion out there...

You don't even care if you die, you just don't want to feel lonely while driving...so you eat junk food while listening to either talk radio or some music channel or satellite radio...

Older drivers seem to have better dicipline in this area I notice...

And your right...certain foods just get 'old' after a while...

Junk food seems like hot, young, commercial...while healthy food seems more like dating a nun...

Junk food has 'taste' zest, salt...sometimes it's hard for 'healthy' foods, like an apple, to compete with mans artisfal flavoring...

Whenever I'm at home, and was rehired in the past...I could only stick to my healthy food for a few weeks, and then I'd give in due to time and moral....

When your feeling dirty and grungy...and your all alone...sometimes you just don't feel like walking into a nice place to eat...where others have no idea your a driver...

Moral plays a lot into where and how you eat...
And that shopping at walmart every other day stuff got old with me real quick...

Even where I live now, I rarely go into walmarts anymore

(no...not because of that...oh let's not even go there again)[IMG]

But I just avoid walmarts now cause their so large...and time consuming...

I wonder if the era of mega stores are done.??

I prefer small shops now, where everything you need is within 40 feet of the front door...

(Sorry, I know I'm jumping around)

But wouldn't it be nice if they could bring back small grocery stores...

Like Dollar stores, only sell fresh produce and meats and eggs and food items...

I bet ya that will be the next retail boom in this country...smaller dollar store type grocery stores...

If I had a million dollars to invest...I'd start a chain...it only makes sense..

Those big mega sized stores just aren't for everyone anymore...

    Anyways...where were we??

Oh ye...junk food...stay away from it...

back soon...been distracted by some annoying fighting cats outside...

Sorry for my absence, for those who still read this...got cut off from the net...

    And I've been real busy...working...(ye!)....

I met a guy the other day who went straight from truck driving school, to a 5 day a week job earning more than most company otd's do...amazing...

    This happens quite a bit...and here's how...

Truck schools who graduate students often advertise their students or agencies to many local, small, class B companies that most of us never hear about.

And many of these local class B companies don't require all that 1 year experience stuff to get hired...

That and temp agencies are often ways one can get introduced to smaller class B companies...it allows them to 'feel you out' and for you to 'feel them out'...and if you like each other 'walla!'...a partnership is formed.

    Now here's my situation...

I can no longer, am no longer willing to work 5 days a week for any labour intensive job, whether trucking or not...it's simply not worth it to me anymore...

I've neglective so many parts of my life over the years do to trucking or other labour intensive jobs, and the pay back has been 'zero'....nada, nothing...

The things I've negleted have been family, social life, personal goals and or development, and spirituality...to name a few...

And the extra money I've earned by working that extra time, has done squat for the quality of my life....

4 extra days off a month, can do more to enrich the quality of my life than working those days could ever do...(that is unless you love what you do)

I stopped going to church because of trucking, I stopped paying attention to family needs, because of trucking, I've neglected my social life, because of trucking...I've failed to meet personal goals, because of trucking and I can no longer sacrifice that stuff...

Maybe some can make it work...but I can't...not at this juncture...

    Continued on next post....

    Continued from above...

I will give 4 days of my best and all...but I can no longer afford to bury other areas of my life for an extra day of grudgery....

My life is simple...I engineered it that way on purpose, so that I wouldn't have to be a total slave to the system...

Where your constantly paying off 'stuff' and other meaningless reciprical type bills...

What happens is you end up earning more, spending more, but still end up broke...

Why not just spend your money more wisely...and enrich your life through 'people' rather than material stuff...

People who are on 'salary'...say who earn $60,000 a year in some admin job...don't realize that for a blue collor soul to earn that...they have to earn that one board at a time, one slegde hammer hit at a time...one timber tree at a time...

And so what happens is ye, your earning 40-60 a year, but at the same time, your body is taking quite a toll...

Your wearing you body out fast...and like retired football players, you will pay for that in your older age...arthritis, joint pain, injuries, bad back ect ect...

Now your so called golden years are wrecked with pain and discomfort....

And all the money you saved goes to medical bills...so in the end...'zero'...

It all adds up to 'zero'....

You cannot 'labour' your way to riches anymore...those days are gone...

I've never seen a migrant worker pick enough potatos to retire at 30 years of age...

You can pick all the potatos you want...and you'll never become a millionare...

Your human frail body will simply wear out and break down...

The price of things have inflated so much these days that hourly wage people really can't afford much anymore unless they...

That's right...unless they, we, slide that card...and build up debt...massive debt...

    Which precluded this economic crisis...

You can no longer nickel and dime your way to riches through $8.00 an hour wages...

Buy the time you get done with rent, tv, phone, food, gas, personal items, insurances, medical, car maintanance and other stuff, you'll will be broke...

You will be just as a Russian peasant in Russia...even though you live here in America...

    Continued on next post...

This idea that you can work your way to riches is a myth...

You get rich by coming up with an idea, finding either..

    a. investers (money)
    b. business loan (money)
    c. rapid sales of your product or service that brings in 10-100 times more profit than cost...

You really can't 'work' your way to riches anymore...

Most high salaried people don't 'work' much at all actually...
Their 'rich' simply cause their salary pays them a lot of money...

They may only work 5 hours a day...if that...

Or they had good enough credit to get a $100,000 business loan to fund their business...

    Or a government grant...

Many of the billionare tycoons of the past didn't get that way because of their own money or hardwork...rather the government gave them grants to start companies that would benefit this country and or government...

(kind of like the land rush of the 1800's...all that land given away for free, as long as you 'worked it'...but still land translated into wealth later on
down the road...wealth given and handed out freely to a select and or willing few)

Many companies were started that way in WW 2...

Large factories in WW 2, weren't started or created by one induvisual cause 'They worked hard'...nope...

Large government grants were given to investment groups...
Because the government needed 'stuff'...airplanes, tanks, ships ect ect...

Then share holders invested...blah blah blah...wealth was created for a few at the top...and workers were hired...thus begin the 'middle class'...

And when prices were cheap, inflation low...being middle class use to be like being 'rich'...

Pluse people were content with less back then...

A middle class house from 1953 would seem like a small shack compared to what middle class homes of today...

Bottom line...money creates wealth, not an induvisuals labour...

Massive money creates more money...massive labour creates backaches and doctor bills...

The insightful will know what I mean...

The condescending will 'play dumb'...and pretend none of it makes sense...
simply cause it's coming from me, and not someone they admire...

Nothings new under the sun...including human behavior...

    Any how, gotta run...back soon...

We live in volitile times, but peace can still reside in your heart, if you allow it...

Lot's of rioting going on in the middle east, as people demand social change...

The citizens of Egypt are trying to over throw their 'dictator' ruler...who the United States kind of favors...

Kind of like how we, the States, favored Saddam Hussien, when it was convient....

Wikileaks has really stirred the pot, and has revealed how nothing is what it appears on the surface...

But us 'smart' people already knew that...

And of course now you can expect oil prices to go up, as the greedy, 'evil' speculators will have a cow with this and fill as much as their coffers with our hard earned money...and at a time when many are unemployed...

But capitolism, as it is today, could careless...if you can't buy, so sad to bad...we'll just sell to someone else...

The markets are ran more like Algebra...not basic math...

The capitolism Sean Hannity spouts, is basic math capitolism...1+1=2...

The capitolism that runs the markets, including investment firms ect ect, is more like triganometry....

Again...the insightful will know what I mean, and spare me from having to write a book to explain everything in detail...

Anyhow...I helped unlogde a womans car today...it was a Benz...

    No other guys would help...

I thought I'd have more to say...but used up all my thoughts elsewhere...

And I have limited access to the net now, just for a while, and so I can't get on here as much at the moment...

    U4EA, hang in there...

The world can seem really batty at times...expecially when in positions where other people get to define you...

One good thing about driving over the road...is in the past you didn't have to deal with larger than life egos on a daily basis...

    Anyhow...I'll check in again soon...

The honeymoon in trucking occurs in the beggining...

When said company buses or fly's you to orientation...

And then they put you up in a nice big hotel room...

And then after you get there...maybe another person will join you...

So it will be two of you to a room...you will spend your first night at orientation sleeping with, next to, a total stranger....

You will pretend to like each other...and stir up general talk...

Then the following morning...you'll go to the lobby and get your free donuts and muffins and cereal....:biggrin_255:

You will repeat this for the next 2-3 or 4 days....

That is your honeymoon...nice big hotel room, cable or satellite tv...and a stranger that you will get firmiluar with. (hopefully not to firmiluar)....:biggrin_25524:

But after orientation...it's on...it's on like Donkey Kong...

Depending on your personal needs, company, dispatcher, pay, the 'love' could last anywhere from 3 months to 20 years...

There's just to many variables for me to cover in this one post...

my love affair lasted about 4-5 years...after that, it simply became a marriage of convience...

Anyhow guy...my time on here is short tonight...I'm at a McDonalds, of all places...using their wifi...cause my service got cut off...

    later...

    Hmm....

Why has destiny called me there??

    I can't stand the cold...

But destiny...might be calling me there for a short time....

More on that later...with a Brazilian connection....

Oh why can't I just have a normal regular life, like leave it to Beaver??

Yes, just a regular 9-5 existance...where all your bills and obligations could be met with such a job or scheduale...with Friday night and weekends off with time and money to go to the cabin.

Whatever happened to those days for the working class?

It seems our working class is becoming more like Egypts working class...

    Work more, take home less...

Man has elevated money to God....money is indeed 'god'.

That's the system man has chosen...and without it, your value is 'zero'...

Man is so clever and smart...I'm so impressed with man...:biggrin_25512:

Anyhow...the next few days and weeks will be interesting...
