What are some trucking companies with autos? I know of averitt, abellien (sp check), and transam. I also know of frontier/online transport but ive heard bad things abt them. I'm not willing to do teams so please don't recommend them. And I'd appreciate no one bashing over autos suck i have my reasons that I'm looking into this. Thanks

You'd better learn to drive an auto, what if your truck breaks down and they stick you in a loaner with a manual and you tell them you can't drive it?
-
Also the OP will have to learn on a manual or will have a restriction on the licence. -
Ever think they are wanting an Auto because they either want an easier time driving through cities or they have a shoulder problem? Of course they are gonna have to learn to drive on a manual, but that doesn't mean they can't get what they want once they go solo if their is a company that offers it.
amtrack Thanks this. -
well western exp is now purchasing more trucks with autos

How would knowing how to drive an Auto Shift help if your truck breaks down and they stick you in a manual loaner?
And since we are playing the "what-if" game, what if the truck with the Auto Shift breaks down and they only have another truck with an Auto Shift to put them in, or what if the truck breaks down and the company has no other trucks available and the driver has to stay in a motel until their truck is fixed? -
There is nothing wrong with an automatic truck, per se. I have one, and quite frankly, I enjoy driving it. It makes a long day go by just a little bit easier, especially if you do a lot of stop and go driving in heavy traffic. As far as the need to know how to drive a manual transmission, I agree with everyone who posted in this thread. It would be very wise to learn how to drive a manual...even if your preference IS to drive for a company with automatics. The breakdown issue is very real. We have 5 autos in my company and the rest are manuals. It's about a 90% given that if my truck breaks down, and I have to use another, it will be a manual.
