trucking schools

That tuition is way too much to pay. You don't need to pay that much to learn how to drive a truck. Well, I should say you don't need to pay that much to get your CDL, which is both the school's and your sole objective when you go to a mill. This is because most of what you learn about being safe and making money you'll learn when you go with your trainer at your first job.

Look around for a cheap training school. They're out there. Community colleges are good places to look. Don't drop a pretty penny at a mill. You'll regret it for years to come.

 

Lansing Community College runs a top notch program out of the old Custer Air Force base near Battle Creek. Give them a ring, I think you'll find that not only is it less expensive, but a very thorough program and excellent job placement opportunities. They have been training there since 1965.

Course is 5 weeks long, 60 hours of classroom time, 140 hours of truck time.


Do a search for Lansing Community College and you'll find their site easily.

 

That's relatively cheap, I was a driving instructor for a few months at a school in KY and the price there was around $6500.00 nothing special either. But I agree check out the local community college to see there price.

The thing about trucking schools is they claim to guarantee you employment. I don't believe this because I went to truckdriving school also back in 96.

They claimed the same thing, I inquired about not wanting to go to a company that school offered they told me I would not get any hire on letters.

Well I did not use any of the schools company's I filled out a ton of application's and recieved ton's of pre-employment letters and went with a company not on the schools list and even got my tution reimbursed.

You just need to do alot of researching and talking to company's ask them if they hire students. One other thing, just because a company does NOT advertise it excepts students doesn't mean they don't.
It is alot of work to call or e-mail each company but it can be worth it also.

Has anybody on here ever heard of Integrity Truck Driving School in Livonia, MI? I'm thinking of going there and then going to work for Schneider. If anyone has any personal experience with them it would be great. Side note: I think this school was formerly located in Grand Rapids, MI

 

There is a school that has a great reputation in Appleton, WI that has a PTDI certified course. Costs for the program is approximately $2,000 which includes tuition, books, physical and drug test, and CDL road test fee. It is the Fox Valley Technical College and the course is 10 weeks long. It seems that it is about 500 miles from you but it may well be worth it.

 

I'm in a PTDI certified school requiring 1000 miles Behind the wheel. It only cost $1,700. It's in Wisconsin though.

im thinking of trying this school out. if and when you complete the school and get your cdl, where do you go from here with no over the road exp?

$4,000 dollars to get your cdl liense. What?! That's crazy.. Stop! Do some research online call information look around. Take the time to know what your getting yourself into. From the start your getting yourself behind the 8 ball so to speak. I know that alot of trucking outfits won't hire you from an independent school. so what. It's not the end of the world. If you have to work local and not be in that kind of debt do that. Why try trucking only to leave and be in huge debts. I heard one trucking company charging $7,800 with a high interest. If one left early then it would go up to $28,000. Wow! Amazing how people let that happen to themselves. No wonder why trucking companies do what they do. This is a predatory practice. Just like the credit card companies at colleges. Once you sign your name on the dotted line there's very little you a do about it. A court of law won't have sympathy for you. The trucking company won't have sympathy for you. See, it's your life on the line. think it over greatly.
