He had the faster truck but only on the downhils and flats. On the grade I was catching him/passing him. HE is the one who should have refrained from passing when he knew he could not maintain on the uphills. It was rude of him and drivers like him to pass just for the sake of passing just so they can bog down traffic behind them. ME? I pass and settle back to the speed limit. I ain't bogging nobody down by going the speed limit and that is where we seem to be having a problem, you think speed limits is too slow and I think it is baby bear (Just Right).

Being courteous to others shouldn't HAVE to be legislated. Your mother SHOULD have taught you that simple life skill, along with the whole "do unto others" thing. It is called using common sense. Being polite. You shouldn't need government to legislate any of that, and I don't know that I'd want to live in a country where common decency HAD to be legislated in order for people to do it. The simple fact that you're so caught up in your own little world and get butt-hurt whenever anybody else does anything you either cannot (due to equipment limitations) or will not (due to any number of personal reasons) do yourself that you have to stubbornly fight them every step of the way for several miles instead of taking the 2 seconds it would take you to momentarily slow 1-2 mph to allow them to get by without holding up everybody else.
But yes, since you asked, there ARE laws prohibiting obstructing traffic. If you're on a 70-75 mph speed limit road and you're only capable of driving 64 mph for whatever reason, you have NO business in the left lane...especially not to "pass" that 63.75 mph truck you managed to creep up on. If you DO pull out to pass, and traffic stacks up behind you because you don't have what you need to complete the pass and he's too stubborn to ease out of it and let you by, then BOTH are just as guilty of obstructing traffic. I would love to see that more heavily enforced...might change the selfish stupidity exhibited by so many steering wheel holders. If you don't have the pedal, stay out of the way. -

OK here is a classic example, about 1:40 this guy comes flying by me but quickly gets bogged down and is going to cause me to have to slow to his pace or get out in front of him. According to you I should just slow down and suck dock dust behind him? And by the way he blew by me again on the downhill side.

Scenario 2: A faster truck catches and passes you. As you start up the first of a series of hills, you notice he slows more than you due to his weight and your lack thereof. You anticipate that he'll likely continue on at a faster pace than you on the backside of the hill, so you ease out of it and remain behind him. At the top of the hill, he accelerates away from you and you don't catch up to him again because he's put enough distance between you and him by the time he starts up the next hill that you're unaffected throughout the rest of the series of hills. The left lane remains clear for cars and trucks less affected by the hills than you, and no stupid 4-wheeler tricks are anywhere to be found.
Scenario 2 solves a lot of problems before they have a chance to take root...all it takes is a mature, professional driver to look at what is developing around them and make a wise decision to manage the space cushion around their vehicle. You seem hell-bent on choosing scenario 1, though. It didn't surprise me in the least that you lost your hood. I figured it would happen on the road, though, not in a truck stop. Your driving style and the choices you make behind the wheel create the environment for that sort of thing to happen. -
A driver who won't back off a little to help someone pass, whether or not the pass is ill-advised, is a complete jagoff. You're creating a dangerous situation when you go side by side for a long time. What if one of the steer tires blow on either truck or a gust of wind causes a collision? Now you're possibly dragging other innocent drivers into your stupid, selfish game. I don't know why anyone would want another truck next to them for minutes at a time, especially wiggle wagons.
I saw a CRST driver force an oncoming four wheeler onto the shoulder because a ####### Crete driver wouldn't back off on Hwy 54 in New Mexico. Later, a truck tried to pass the same jagoff Crete driver on a hill and barely got over before a four wheeler came over the top of the hill and Crete wouldn't slow down at all. I guess he would rather see a head-on collision than be inconvenienced. -
OK here's another one that happened today. We are climbing up CA -58 westbound a couple miles east of the westbound Mojave weigh station. If you are familiar, the grade rises uphill in here. I had a stop yesterday in Phoenix so they took about half the freight off me so I'm pretty light compared to this guy who looks to be loaded heavy reefer. Not sure what he was thinking trying to pass so close to the scales anyway, but I was in cruise control exactly 55 miles per hour. 55 was just too doggone slow for this guy, man was he inconvenienced to only go 55 through here. I feel your pain dude. He got up beside me with all the intention of passing but he just didn't have the ummph needed. I knew he was going to bog down that's why I didn't slow down, why should I? How rude of the dude to expect me to go his slower speed. NO, he can go my speed which is the speed limit anyway and he loses absolutely nothing by getting back behind me where he was. Now if I back off all's that will happen is I will have to suck it til the weigh station, I don't dare execute a pass and possibly get stuck out in the left lane. All's I did was keep it in cruise and she kept right on chugging at 55 as this guy was losing speed uphill. He didn't lose anything by getting back behind me, he was never gonna get below the speed limit behind me even if it flattened out. Meanwhile all he did by trying to pass was stack up a bunch of cars behind himself like a jassack.
