The real person that should have a issue is the OEM shipper. So I pay XYZ broker to ship my freight 5000 dollhairs. I no longer have a traffic department because of corp cut backs and this 3pl/broker guarantees service and efficiency. Then I start noticing the rolling junk yard of equipment is showing up. 20 yearold van trailers, flatbeds with out chains, or tarps. Then I find out from the rumdumb driver dragging his side farings on my parking lot and backing into building causing damage. He hauled it for 2000 dollhairs. I would loose it. However these large corp are so disconnected. They don't know or care. So I don't care.
I'm here to make a million dollars, not a million friends.Oxbow, Swine hauler, PoleCrusher and 10 others Thank this. -
You might understand after watching, why he is what he is.
To be honest, as a new O/O 8 years ago, most of what he said went straight over my head. I know you’re not new to this game, but the next time we broke bread, I understood a little better.
And it's unlikely you'll get to pay for your meal, and the shirt that clothes his back might be on yours if you needed it.

A person who is pragmatic is concerned more with matters of fact than with what could or should be. A pragmatic person's realm is results and consequences.Oxbow, Czar_Zero, PoleCrusher and 8 others Thank this. -
Like you said, you could request the information, but forget that you'll ever book a load with that broker again.
In the Landstar system, they appear to have that all wrapped up - in the 'LOSM' tab, you can see all documents and charges paid from whoever the load was purchased from, to the driver. Problem is - if CHR is who Landstar purchased the load from, you'll never see what CHR actually received from the shipper/manufacturer (as @Ridgeline said - the OEM).
The Landstar board is trashed with sub agents that simply scan the boards and re-post. I'm all for his suggestion of legislation that limits this to "One shipper - One broker - One carrier" - and not for transparency or morals and ethics purposes . . .
For the simple fact. Less middle men makes for efficiency. ESPECIALLY in platform freight. Countless times I've been on site to load where they tell me that a 53' van came to load an oversize piece of freight. It's the excess of muppets in between that waste resources.
Maybe this is a different problem between van/reefer and platform freight. I dunno. Educate me. I do know there is no 'point and click loads' that exist in platform, unless you're willing to drive yourself into a plethora of unknown challenges for the lowest possible bid.Oxbow, Czar_Zero, PoleCrusher and 9 others Thank this. -
At the end of the day, it doesn't matter what the broker gets paid...they are the ones that hold the contract to move the goods.

Market rates: By Carriers, for Carriers
I ran mileage for metros to keep as a reference when considering loads...it's a partial list but I wanted to provide enough data to compare with those that want to be transparent and possibly help another carrier out...MartinFromBC, jamespmack and singlescrewshaker Thank this. -
#### two truck loads in one week, if I have to work, guess I might as well be lazy about it….
I don’t know how some do it just off load boards, one guy taking a little bit in the middle doesn’t bother me as long as we both can make a little bit, I would rather them crack down on the double/triple/quadruple brokering then the transparency of what the broker is bidding the work for.Last edited: Oct 12, 2022
