It’s really not as different as you make it seem. You’re given numbers ahead of time (the rate) and you base your choice to do business with the other party or not. When you contact a broker about a load you’re given the rate ahead of time and you make your choice to do business with them or not.

Even myself being leased to a carrier what happens in their negotiations is none of my business. What is my business is if I feel fairly compensated for the work I do and if I want to continue my relationship with them.

    @MartinFromBC

Reminded me of the above which I also had to learn.

Example 1 - I called around for trailer repair the other week - all 3 options were busy and would have to 'work me in'. I elected my inspection site/trailer repair place.

When I arrived, their yard truck was out of action and they were dead in the water, unable to ferry trailers in and out to work on. I played yard jockey with my truck for an hour to help them.

Trailer got repaired the next day, $100 knocked off invoice for the help. They are also going out of business next month due to a land sale, so there was no 'going forward' benefit to my labor.

Example 2 - Worked for an agent couple of years back, employee of an agent. Got to know the kid pretty good, made $14k in a week with him - sent him $500 cash. Young guy - 28 or so, lives in the NE - nothing expected, just "I made out good - You make out good" Might have been the equivalent of a weeks wages for him. We still keep in touch.

I found I did a lot better when I stopped being tight fisted and adversarial about who made what - tried to remember if I was smiling, then I should encourage others to smile with me. That way, when I was frowning, sometimes they would return and help me smile again.

    I ho
I don’t care what anyone makes. If I am selling or buying it is in my all in price. So if I think it is a good deal I buy or sell. If it is not a good deal then I don’t do either. You put it on everyone else to help you make a decision. I use my brain and do the math. As long as I know my numbers I don’t care. Plan and simple.

I’m late to this party but Regulation 49 cfr 373.1 already addressed this issue.
All you have to do is ask the broker for this information.
Now if he decides to never use you for that load or ever again for that matter, that’s his business.
Pull up your big boy pants and do the hard work. Know your operation. Know your numbers. Quit asking for everyone to do your job for you.

Nope - late to the party doesn't qualify as an excuse.

YOU must return to page One, and suffer as we all have, before coming in with your great summation, which is - tragically for folks like me - concise and correct.

    :)

I really need to go to work. This is like a train wreck I'm drawn to.

I see you don’t understand the most basic aspects of the premise that I presented.

there’s a million ways to make money with a truck: If you can’t figure out a single one, that’s a you problem not an everybody else problem.

That’s fine, but you won’t work with your carrier if they don’t show you the numbers. Same theory because you are promised said percentage of booked load and are given a piece of paper that says how much load was booked for. Am I not correct?

you will care if you think the bank is only offering you 6% when in reality it’s 4% and the broker is pocketing 2% on a 200k loan. That was part of the problem as brokers hid their fees on the loans interest pre 08.

you will care when your agent says my fees are disclosed at the end of the sale.

but like I said I’m for capitalism just make it a even playing field.

It’s not a me problem, I am doing just fine. The issue is people thinking they are right all the time yet fail to see the hypocrisy of what they said. Take advantage of government regulation when it benefits them and scoff at it when it doesn’t.

it’s either absolute capitalism or none at all. I don’t see how you fail to understand that. Just like absolute freedom of speech or none at all. There is no in between.

I've been booking pretty much exclusively all brokered freight since 2011. I challenge you or anyone else on here to go back and find a single, solitary posting made by me in that time frame crying about what the broker made on a load I hauled. Or one complaining they made too much or needed regulated more. I'll Venmo you $100 if you find it.

When I find something is no longer working for me I move on. I don't point fingers at everyone else. A few years ago van freight got to where it just wasn't working for me anymore. Like I said there's all kinds of opportunities out here for trucks. Direct, brokered, brokerage, vans, flats, reefers, oilfields, tankers, tow trucks, tow aways whatever makes you happy the sky is the limit.
