I dropped and hooked earlier today, and then went to go get my next live load.
When I inspected the empty I was picking up, everything seemed to be ok. All tires had good tread depth.
However, when I did my post trip this evening, I noticed that one of the trailer tires has a section where the tread is entirely worn down. There is no tread depth, it is entirely flat, but there is no metal cordage showing. This section must have been pointed towards the ground when I originally got the trailer and thus I missed it. Its like someone seriously dragged the tires and wore off the entire tread in this one section.
I'm on my 10 right now. Got a tight schedule tomorrow, 500 miles and barely enough time to do it.
Can I run on this or does it need to be fixed which would probably cause me to miss the delivery.

It's probably not unsafe, per se, but it certainly would be a violation, and having to get it fixed at a scale would cost more than getting it fixed where you sit. Where was the empty? If you did a decent inspection and the problem area was really on the ground there's a good chance that that's where the damage was done, especially if it was at a place where there may have been a yard goat moving it.

Those flat spots make a lot of thumping noise at speed and can draw unwanted attention, especially this week.
A lazy CMV cop only needs to park on an on ramp with the window down and listen. Sure and easy ticket along with an OOS and associated lost time.Last edited: Jun 6, 2017

Minimum tread depth on trailer tires is 2/32.
If you have flat spots, the tire isn't legal.passingthru69 Thanks this.
