There is not particular reason to work a semi that way through the woods. It's two lane to shawsville then eventually Bel Air in Hartford County the hard way. One turn gets you lost to PA or down into Western approaches to Baltimore.

For all that effort might as well just zip down 83 over 695 and up and around. No need for the horsies and shifting to get out of some of those hollows.

There used to be a Grumman near Delta Maryland but that probably died in the 60's after the war years. I would imagine.

GPS cost you this time. Grab a rand mcnally atlas that is your first reference. There is usually a state agency that is listed in it that can tell you if a particular route is good or not. If you were coming from PA aiming at NE Baltimore 83 is not that bad. Probably 20 minutes to beltway and depending on traffic another 15 to 20 to that side for delivery.

If they finally built scales on 83 if you had a cat ticket prior when loading to know if you were legal or not there is no point in trying to get around them or appear to behave as you want to .

He went easy on me. $70 fine but put me oos for a crimped air line. 4 hours on the side of road to get rolling again...ouch!
My delivery was just on the other side of Bel Air, so it appeared to be the most direct route. I only had half a trailer so the hills weren’t an issue once I got to them. First time in MD and the joke is on me this time. Not going to make the same mistake again.

Im happy you got out of that with a little pinch. In that part of Baltimore County more or less we have what is called the pretty-boy reservoir and dam. It's a tiny dam as dams go for trying to fit a rig across (You wont) which would have not been far from you if you made a mistake. There are a couple of other whoopsies in that part of the state. Trust me there is nothing really for commerce and freighting. Mostly towns that are like one gas station and a couple of homes if that.

Maryland has been famous for that since AT LEAST the time 53 ft trailers became legal. I've been stopped there, but they didn't give me a ticket after I showed them my inspection report from MD scalehouse that morning.

I remember a company memo when running through MD with a 53' spread axle trailer. The trailers had a rear sliding axle so they could also be CA legal. Even if you could run with the rear axle forward and be legal on axle groups you had to slide the rear axle out when running through MD.

And people think CA hates trucks.

    Sorry bud, MD sucks.

Yea everything dated to the day 53's became legal. Then it was not long before edicts came spilling out of Annapolis and into the big rig's ability to use those. I was still in the 45's and 48s and sometimes not even that and ran everywhere.

There were certain roads like MD144 along I-70 for instance that were not allowed to trucks forever.

Sounds about right for Maryland. That state is retarded with vehicle laws.

Thats not all they are for laws.

Arkansas is a pretty free state. Been here at least 21 years so far and have no real conflicts with them. As I would have in Maryland long ago. (And did...) If you wanted to see the mayor hes either working the day job for hourly somewhere or you can go to the town hall and see him for whatever. Back in Baltimore? Forget it. I can see our State House occasionally voting down laws that would have evolved to a future California style of rule but as long as they keep it that way...

My atlas doesn’t have CA, Fl, or anything above PA. Someone drew a big red X across them..
