Depends on where you live, what fleet you are on, how your rep is, etc... I've been coast to coast. Dont care about kommiefornia or the rest od the left coast. Nothing for me there while.in my truck. Colorado, the dakotas, montana are the only ones I ain't been to yet I want to get to.

If I end up going to work for USA Truck, it is nice to know that I have the chance to drive all the country. I have lived in both California and Colorado, and I have seen all I really want of California already, except for perhaps the far northern part.

I was told today by the shuttle driver that they should be getting a shipment of Prostars sometime in the future. Something about fulfilling the contract or something.

Groove, great synopsis of your experience with USA Truck. I am going through the qualification process with Driver Solutions and have been weighing the pros and cons of entering the trucking industry. I'm being told that USA Truck will be the company I'll be working for. There's a lot to process and much to consider. I'm very concerning with opening myself up to the apparently real possibility of being fired for some trivial reason before my year is up and being hit with the burden of having to pay the full tuition cost. The tuition being charged is $3000 more than the charge of paying the college (Midwest Technical Institute) directly. Even factoring in the 20-day housing cost they are paying, $3000 seems very excessive. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to post for us "wannabes". (BTW, if anyone can comment on the CDL training provided by MTI, I'd appreciate it.)

Have you checked into getting a grant from your local dept of labor? It's not difficult to qualify, most people aren't even aware that they're available. As far as which school you go to...it doesn't really matter because they're just CDL mills, you'll be as qualified to drive a truck the day you graduate as the day before you arrived there. The only thing a school does (honestly) is teaches you just barely enough to get a license...and by watching drivers it's obvious they'll give a license to anyone.

As far as USA goes, you have to be really lazy and/or stoopid to get fired there. There's going to be BS with any company you choose, habitually being late will get you fired, refusing loads will, too.And of course accidents...but USA is very forgiving with the minor ones.

Gotta be honest with ya.... if you live in the eastern half of the country seeing the western half with USA ISN'T ALL THAT COMMON. Canada is only along the Ontario/Quebec border with the USA. We aren't even allowed to buy fuel over there. So it is fill up before you cross and when you get back.
The north western states are seen only by a very select few.
It wasn't like this when I started with USA and is one of the reasons I'm going to be leaving USA. I just don't care for doing the same ole, same ole routine.

I have been over to the left coast a fair amount of times. It also helps to have a hazmat endorsement. All my loads heading that way were hazmat. Then I would stay that way for a week or so then head back. Always enjoyed being everywhere but the people's republic of Commiefornia
