This post may not matter to most , but I hope a few new people will see this and change their mind about joining USA. I am a new driver at USA and have done all that was ask of me. I went to Knox and picked up a truck that had beened abandoned , was screwed out of clean up pay . I was told I would get up to 3 hrs pays to clean truck and be reimbursed for supplies . I never got either. I went to get a loaded trailer in Atl terminal backed up to it to find out that fifth wheel was broke. I was told by break down to wait until next day to get fixed. I waited 3 days at terminal then was told they was having to set up an account with someone else because they could not get parts from Freightliner of Atl. So I went home as I was instructed to do. I get in touch with my upgrade manager and let her know what was going on. She informs me that my fleet manager will not pay me break down pay because I had not hauled a load yet. I have been sitting for 8 days because they cant get the part I need and USA will not pay me for it. What kind of BS company does its people like that. I told my upgrade manager that if I wasn't getting paid then I would turn in my keys. She ask me to be patient and not quit. She is going to try to go over his head. She thought I was getting paid. So I will wait. My fleet manager has never returned any of my messages and never answer calls. So I ask all you people who have been here for awhile . What are my options or am I just screwed?

Don't let them take advantage of you for breakdown pay. It isn't your fault they sent you to a broken truck. Tell them to pay you, or you will go find another company that will pay you for your work. They will either pay you, or lose the money you owe them for the school, because I know if they aren't paying you for your work, you aren't going to pay them. At least that would seem the fair thing in my eyes. If you let them get over on you now, they will continue it. Also let your FM boss know to check the QC and ask why multiple messages have gone unanswered and ask him if he works for free. If he says he will, then say good, you can just give me your pay for the past week and we will call it even. But I am sure he won't say yes, but he may still tell you to work for free. Good luck.

Honestly while USA Truck talks a good talk about driver retention it is important to remember it is just talk. If a driver gets angry about something and they have a good FM said FM will try to satisfy you. This applies to miles, detention and breakdown pay too. BUT if it is a major issue USA will just accept your notice, or find a way to fire you as they did me. Remember USA has anywhere from 30 to 60 drivers coming into orientation most every week. The long and short of it is simple. Unless you are a pet or have been working there for many years you are expendable to them. I am also starting to hear some scuttlebutt about some issues with the FM's having problems with this new guy over operations. Not meaning to hijack this thread, but while I have some major bad blood toward USA as a company I did leave a decent FM and several of the people there at Van Buren are first rate people. It is for their sakes I hope USA can get itself un-^%$#@ ed soon and become a good company. However there are about 6 people that if I saw their obit in the paper tomorrow I would not lose any sleep over it. -
OK guys I need a little more help. What is down time pay supposed to be and detention pay. They are wanting to pay me for dwn time but i need to know what it is supposed to be.

They should know how much it should be...
Detention when sitting at a shipper/receiver is (I believe) to start after 4? hours at $15/hr after that.
When sitting on a load for an extra day it is $120/day
When broke down it is $120/day
Extra stops are $30 for each additional stopsmokefan14 and Vicbs Thank this. -
